Liverpool extended their unbeaten run to five matches in all competitions when they met Brighton at Anfield.

The Reds have been slowly improving after a run of just three wins in 12 matches across all competitions earlier this season.

Against the Seagulls, Liverpool fans praised Hugo Ekitike, suggesting he’s ahead of their record signing, Alexander Isak.

The Frenchman extended his lead as the Reds’ top goalscorer this season by netting a brace in the 2-0 win over Brighton.

But a lot of the talk pre and post-match has, as expected, centred around Mohamed Salah.

Hugo Ekitike praised Mohamed Salah assist vs Brighton

Ekitike opened the scoring inside a minute at Anfield and commented on his opener when speaking to BBC Sport.

On his first goal, he said: “The ball came quick. I tried to be ready. You don’t expect to score in the first minute and I try to be always ready.”

The 23-year-old was then asked about his second of the day, and praised Salah for his ‘great’ cross.

The striker said: “He [Salah] gave me a great ball, I just had to be in a good place. It was easy to finish.

“I was looking for the hat-trick but it is going to be another time. It was good, two goals. We try to stick together and work together. Today wasn’t easy. We had to stay compact and stick together. I think we deserved it. We did a great week and let’s continue.

“When you play for Liverpool, you just have to win games. We are Liverpool, we need to win.”

Isak was dropped on Saturday after playing with an injury earlier this week, but if he’s recovered enough for the Tottenham Hotspur meeting, it will be interesting to see how Slot fits both strikers into the same team, given Wirtz is also looking pretty undroppable right now.
