Mohamed Salah failed to get on the pitch for a second time in three Liverpool matches as the Reds succumbed to late drama at Elland Road.

Having brought the Egyptian on at half-time during Wednesday’s disappointing draw against Sunderland, it had been expected Arne Slot may return Salah to the line-up in Leeds.

However, the Liverpool head coach stuck to his guns, leaving out the legendary winger once again.

With Liverpool needing a goal heading into the final 10 minutes, Slot chose not to call on Salah, raising serious questions about his immediate future with the Reds.

After watching his teammates twice throw away a lead in West Yorkshire, Salah made a move on the pitch at full-time which fans will no doubt read plenty into.

Mohamed Salah applauds Liverpool supporters

Salah is certainly not used to not playing for Liverpool, and you could forgive him for being furious at the end of Saturday’s game.

However, as journalist James Pearce spotted and then filmed at Elland Road, the 33-year-old was anything but.

Posting on X, Pearce shared a video of Salah’s reaction at full-time, with the Egypt captain spotted applauding the away end.

“Mohamed Salah, who remained on the bench throughout, goes across to applaud the away end after the final whistle at Elland Road,” wrote the journalist.

Salah could be seen standing for several seconds in front of the Liverpool supporters before going to greet Alisson Becker and Dominik Szoboszlai on the pitch.

What next for Salah at Liverpool?

It has been a big call for Slot to leave Salah out during Liverpool’s recent run of fixtures, but the results have been mixed at best.

Certainly, it would be tough to argue that the Reds have been better off without him, with consecutive draws against newly-promoted sides not exactly the best advert for a post-Salah Liverpool.

The Reds don’t have long to wait for their next game which comes away at Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Fresh and surely raring to go, it would be a shock if Slot did not bring Salah back into the XI in Milan.

You can’t knock the Dutch coach for trying something different and Salah arguably deserved a spell out of the team. But things are not improving. It’s time to bring him back.
