Ibrahima Konate’s recent injuries at Liverpool may have helped his potential Real Madrid transfer collapse.
Over the last few years, the Frenchman has been consistently linked with a move to the Bernabeu.
And, now that he’s entered the final year of his contract and he hasn’t yet signed an extension at Liverpool, rumours about his future have been rife.

However, something that has often hurt Konate’s form for the Anfield outfit has been his injuries, but now, it feels like they may have actually done the Reds a favour.
Ibrahima Konate’s Real Madrid transfer is threatening to collapse due to his recent injuries for Liverpool
Konate’s injury-proneness is one of the main things that has kept him from being one of the best centre-backs in the world.
Although there have been times when the defender has proven his worth, more often than not, injuries have stopped him in his tracks.
But now, as per a report from Spanish outlet Cadena SER, his injuries may have actually helped Liverpool out.
The report states that Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba’s lack of fitness has made them less valuable to Real, with the duo seen as their ‘past’ rather than their ‘future.’
And, even though Real Madrid saw Konate as an ideal replacement, his injury history is making the La Liga outfit reconsider their stance and is even causing the deal to ‘collapse’ with Dayot Upamecano now emerging as a top target.
This is all good news for Liverpool as it means that they aren’t likely to be left with just three senior centre-backs next term.
Talks between Konate and Liverpool haven’t had the desired outcome of extending his stay just yet, but if Real drop out of the race, it feels likely that the Frenchman will stay put.
This is excellent news for Liverpool, especially since Virgil van Dijk’s contract is set to run out in the summer of 2027.
Ibrahima Konate could end up becoming Liverpool’s next Virgil van Dijk if he stays at Anfield
Konate and Van Dijk have managed to form a solid partnership over the last few years that they’ve played alongside one another.
Last season, the duo were among the best in the Premier League, with their back four being fairly formidable.
This season, due to the number of new additions that have been made, things have been a bit more difficult.
Konate has been in some terrible form for Liverpool recently, but once his contract situation is sorted, it feels like that will be a massive weight lifted off his shoulders.

If the Frenchman does choose to stay, he could quickly become the Reds’ next Van Dijk upon his eventual departure.
He’d become the new leader of the back four and perhaps even thrive, but for this to happen, everything must fall into place, so here’s hoping that Real drop out of the race.
