Liverpool’s defeat to Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup has extended a nightmare run for the team.
Arne Slot decided to field a majority of youngsters in the League Cup game against Palace, as the young squad lost 3-0 to a strong Oliver Glasner side at Anfield.
It was a performance in which there was nothing really to be ashamed of from the academy stars, with many of the match’s mistakes coming from senior players such as Joe Gomez and Andy Robertson.
The decision to make up not just the starting XI but also the bench of young stars was interesting because, on one hand, it gave first-team players a rest, but not having enough experience left the side without a chance.
There were minimal individual errors from those in the under-21s set-up; however, one star found himself sent off shortly after coming onto the pitch.
Amara Nallo is the first player in Liverpool history to receive back-to-back red cards
The promising young centre-back, Amara Nallo, was only just getting going in the game before he was sent off for fouling Justin Devenny when he was about to have a clear run on goal.
This was the second time in the starlet’s career that he has been sent off in a senior appearance for the club after his Champions League debut ended early against PSV Eindhoven after being shown a red for a last-man challenge on Johan Bakayoko.
Nallo, after being sent back to the dressing room, has now made a piece of club history for the feat.

According to Michael Reid, the 18-year-old has become the first player in Liverpool history to receive back-to-back red cards.
It is not a great piece of history to be involved in, but the young star has nothing to be ashamed of because those kinds of incidents happen.
Amara Nallo needs a full Liverpool debut
While it may not have been his night, when he came on, there were glimpses of the quality of this young centre-half on full display.
He is strong and has good movement both on and off the ball, so what he really needs in the near future, preferably in the FA Cup, is a full debut to impress the fans.
It is a difficult job, not only coming on late in the game when the team are losing but also when there are no other senior players there to guide him or receive instructions.
Nallo was just unfortunate, and if anything, did the right thing because Devenny was through on goal.
Another chance for him to prove himself will come, and while it may not be the best two starts that he could have hoped for, he has all the time in the world to show why he is a future star.
