Milos Kerkez told why his time with Liverpool hasn’t gone to plan so far

Milos Kerkez is just one of many Liverpool players who have had a poor start to the season.

Reds fans would have thought that based on how well they performed last season and the additions they made over the summer, that it would make them unstoppable.

However, this has not been the case whatsoever and, if anything, they have made themselves very beatable.

One reason for this is due to their defence looking rather shaky, with Kerkez one player in particular who has struggled since joining.

Kerkez has been slammed for his performances over recent weeks, and former Red Stephen Warnock thinks he knows why things have not gone to plan for the Hungarian.

Milos Kerkez is too attacking-minded

When Kerkez first arrived, Reds fans were so excited as he looked to be one of the most exciting full-backs in the league.

He also shared resemblances with Andy Robertson, meaning that most thought the transition between the two would be seamless, but this has not happened.

There are, of course, many reasons for this, and his age certainly plays a factor, but Warnock thinks that the Hungarian might be trying a little too hard to impress.

“I thought it would be a really good signing. Bournemouth under Iraola are a counter-attacking team. He was a counter-attacking full-back,” he said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“He always had that space to drive into. Now he doesn’t because you dominate the football. Is he good enough on the ball? I think he is but at the moment I think he is trying too hard.

“I think the situation now is Bradley and Kerkez want to fly forward. Robertson last year wasn’t a flying full-back. He sat in and made it a back three. That’s when Liverpool were more solid last year. So you are losing that balance at the back as well.”

Andy Robertson needs to restore the balance into Liverpool

The best solution right now might be to take Kerkez out of the team and the firing line, and replace him with Robertson.

The Scotsman is vastly experienced and this is exactly what the Reds need right now, especially as he can restore balance to the left-hand side.

The 31-year-old has also not had many chances at all this season which is rather surprising, with Jamie Carragher believing he has been treated unfairly.

So, a run in the team now might be best for both parties, with Kerkez able to settle and learn from a player who was once in a similar position to him.
