Milos Kerkez hints at which matches Andy Robertson should play for Liverpool instead of him

Milos Kerkez has been installed as Liverpool’s first-choice left-back since arriving from Bournemouth in June.

The Hungary international was named in the PFA Team of the Year for his performances last season, and after being signed for £40m, many had expected that he would slot straight into the side.

While that has been the case so far, with Kerkez starting all seven of Liverpool‘s Premier League matches so far, it has not all been straightforward.

Kerkez was taken off after just 38 minutes against Burnley in September, for example, while he has visibly struggled in other matches too.

This has led to calls in some areas of the Liverpool fanbase for Arne Slot to reinstate Andy Robertson as his regular left-back.

It is a dilemma for Slot, who is trying to get Kerkez up to speed while still acknowledging that, at 21, he may face a steep learning curve as well. Handily, Kerkez has now dropped a big hint to let the Liverpool head coach know which game he may be best sitting out of.

Milos Kerkez should play Liverpool’s matches at Anfield

It has certainly not been all bad from Kerkez so far. His best two games have come during the home wins over Arsenal and Everton.

Interestingly, it does not seem to be a coincidence that the former Bournemouth man thrives on home turf.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com on Saturday, Kerkez admitted that he ‘feels different’ when playing in front of the Reds fans.

“I always feel different when I’m playing in Anfield, to be honest – I get a lot of energy and I’m not really feeling too tired with the adrenaline, so I’m looking forward to it,” he said, with a nod to Sunday’s game against Manchester United.

For Slot, this should provide an answer to his ongoing left-back dilemma. Kerkez for home, the experience and know-how of Robertson for away games.

Rotating in such a way will ensure Kerkez gets the protection he appears to need, while also making sure Robertson’s qualities are still utilised as well. Win-win.

Kerkez set to continue against Man United

If Slot does choose to employ this strategy, then Sunday’s clash with United will see yet another start for Kerkez.

Although he is in a sticky moment, that is probably the best decision at this moment in time. The youngster needs to play through these difficult early stages at Liverpool.

Robertson did not have the best international break with Scotland, and while Kerkez is somewhat out of form himself, he looked far better for Hungary.

Slot has already shown that he is not afraid to make a bold decision and swap the left-back position in-game if it is not working.

But if he is smart and astute, he can still get the best out of his two excellent options if he only listens to what they are telling him. Kerkez home, Robertson away.
