Alexis Mac Allister’s start to the season has been indicative of many other Liverpool players.
The Argentine was one of the focal points in last year’s Premier League title win, with his composure and creativity in the midfield standing out as a driving force for some of the Reds’ best moments.
However, it seems Mac Allister’s injuries and lack of pre-season have caught up with him at the start of this season, with the £35 million man struggling to find any rhythm or be as influential as he has been previously.
The 26-year-old is not alone in his performances, as the team as a unit has not played well enough together, but his performances stand out because they have caused the midfield to seem weaker than it usually is.
On the back of the international break, where he had two starkly contrasting games, it is hoped that his display in the 6-0 win over Puerto Rico, in which he scored two, is one that he can replicate against Manchester United.

Jan Molby says Alexis Mac Allister’s form has led to a lack of control
Jan Molby has previewed the game against United this Sunday in what is set to be a very interesting clash, given the lack of consistent form from the Red Devils and Liverpool attempting to overturn a three-game run of defeats.
The Dane believes that the team are not gelling as well as expected yet, but it could be a good thing given the fact that this season they have won games despite not being at their best.

Speaking to Anfield Index, Molby highlighted that Mac Allister’s form for the Reds has left the team with a lack of control compared to last season.
He said: “Then we get the midfield thing or the lack of control, and I do believe that’s got a lot to do with Alexis being in the form or not being in the form that we expecting. So we lose that kind of control that he gives us.
“So there are a lot of things to be sorted. But the beauty of it all is that because we’ve got good players, or great players, you’ve got a chance, haven’t you? So it could happen out of nowhere. Having said all of that, I’m not convinced it’s about to happen.”
Alexis Mac Allister could be useful in the Manchester United clash
While the Argentinian international may not start this game, he could be very useful in the clash on Sunday, given the openness of this United team.
If he is fit enough, a stint in the midfield at the weekend could be what he needs to find his form, as the way Ruben Amorim sets his team up leaves gaps all over the pitch for him to run into.
Finding these pockets of space will be crucial for this team, who have found it tricky to get into those positions to create chances.
Either Mac Allister or Florian Wirtz would work in that midfield three, but it will be a very difficult call for Arne Slot to make, given they both have the characteristics to shine in this fixture.
