Steven Gerrard admits that he played with someone at Liverpool who was ‘very underrated’

Steven Gerrard will forever be remembered as a Liverpool legend.

The midfielder epitomised what it means to represent the Anfield outfit, and, to be honest, the only thing he could’ve done to make his stint even better was to win the Premier League.

Of course, that was never meant to be, but the fact that he chose to stick by his boyhood club no matter what is an inspiration to all of Liverpool’s potential academy graduates.

There were times when the Englishman had a more than solid team around him, but there were also others when things couldn’t have been going much worse.

However, there was one of his former teammates who he feels is rather underrated for his time at Anfield.

Steven Gerrard believes that Didi Hamann was underrated at Liverpool

Throughout his career, Gerrard was the one constant among Liverpool’s team before making the move to LA Galaxy.

He’s also one of England’s best-ever centre-midfielders, with many fans, pundits, and journalists even thinking of him as the best ever.

However, during his time with Liverpool, he did have some impressive teammates along the way, such as Didi Hamann.

However, while speaking on the Rio Meets Podcast, Gerrard, while picking his best five-a-side team out of players he’s played with, said that Hamann was ‘very underrated.’

“For midfielders, definitely Alonso,” he said.

“Mascherano was good, but I only played with him for a little short period of time, so I’d probably say Didi Hamann, all very underrated.”

Didi Hamann was one of Liverpool’s best players during his era

Although Gerrard may see Hamann as being underrated, it’s clear that he was instrumental to Liverpool’s successes.

He more than managed to cement his place in Liverpool’s starting XI as their defensive midfielder during the seven years he was at the club.

While playing for Liverpool, Hamann managed to win everything apart from the Premier League, much like Gerrard.

In fact, when Hamann and Gerrard played alongside one another, the German used to do most of the defensive work, which allowed the Englishman to push forward and ensure his range of passing was put to good use.

He could also read the game as if he predicted the future, although he’s not quite at Hamann’s level just yet, if Ryan Gravenberch continues on this upward spiral, there’s no reason why he can’t also become a Liverpool great.
