Marc Guehi almost became a Liverpool player during the summer transfer window.
The Englishman’s medical had been conducted and everything, but in the dying embers, Steve Parish chose to pull the plug on the deal as Crystal Palace missed out on signing Igor Julio.
In the end, this is likely the outcome that the Eagles wanted for their maiden season in the Europa Conference League, but the fact that the centre-back will leave for nothing at the end of the season is likely concerning.
And, although Liverpool had agreed a deal with Guehi and the Eagles, now that he’s set to be a free agent, he could very easily choose to move elsewhere, such as Real Madrid or Tottenham.
However, since he’s such a high-profile player, many clubs from across the world are interested in signing him, with Inter Milan now also throwing their hat into the ring.
Inter Milan want to sign Marc Guehi at the end of the 2025-26 season
As per a report from Italian outlet Tuttosport, Inter Milan have now ‘entered the race’ for Guehi.
Their interest is said to date back ‘a long time’, but no ‘real negotiations’ have ever taken place between the Englishman and the Serie A outfit.
And, although Inter’s interest in the centre-back is genuine, they are still watching from ‘afar’ with Liverpool still seen as the ‘favourites’ to acquire Guehi’s services at some point over the next year.
The centre-back would have solved all of the Reds’ defensive problems this season, with the 24-year-old managing to perform far better than the likes of Ibrahima Konate already this term.
Liverpool need to make another move for Marc Guehi as soon as possible
Although an agreement was reached between Liverpool and Guehi in the summer, negotiations will change due to Liverpool not having to pay a transfer fee.
Instead, the player will likely expect a signing-on fee to be directly paid to them, which is why most players end up running their contracts down.
This payment will be more than enough to set Guehi up for life and could be a key negotiating factor in which club he decides to join.
As mentioned, many teams from across the globe are now showing an interest in Guehi, with a decision not yet being made.
And, although many expected him to be upset or frustrated about his failed Liverpool move, he seems to have taken everything in his stride and has just got on with the season.
At the moment, nobody knows how things will pan out, but for now, it still feels likely that he could become a Liverpool player in the near future, even if clubs such as Real and Inter are showing an interest.
