Many of Liverpool’s stars have put in some excellent performances over the international break.
The Reds were struggling for form so this pause in the season has probably come at a good time, although most of their players have not exactly had a rest.
With the World Cup qualifiers in full swing, many of them are hoping to guide their nation to the tournament, which is exactly what Cody Gakpo has been doing over the last week.
The winger scored three and assisted one across the Netherlands’ matches, both of which ended in a 4-0 win.
The Liverpool star certainly proved to be a key player for them once again, but this has left many Reds fans asking a lot of questions.
Liverpool fans confused by Cody Gakpo’s form
When Luis Diaz departed over the summer, many thought the baton would be passed over to Gakpo with relative ease and he would be ready to become a star in this Liverpool team.
However, this has not been the case and the Dutchman has struggled for form as of late, with some supporters even believing he needs to be dropped from the side.
But back-to-back impressive performances for his country prove yet again just how good a player he really is, although supporters are confused as to why he cannot perform like that in a Liverpool shirt.
One fan wrote on X: “Why can’t he do this for us??? Maybe it really is the system or instructions given,” while another added: “Need him to start playing like this for Liverpool.”
A third fan put: “He doesn’t bring this energy to Liverpool…” with a fourth hoping that it will click into gear soon, saying: “Why are LFC players world class in internationals but not shown it recently for us?! Hopefully gelling of new players just takes a few more weeks.”

A fifth jokingly added: “Bro how do we download the Cody Gakpo Netherlands update for Liverpool!?”
A sixth simply put: “WE NEED THIS FORM!” while another put: “He does this every week at Liverpool, usually just ends up in the stands…”
A final supporter believes he has always been capable of this, he just needs to get in these positions for Liverpool more, saying: “It’s his zone, mate! He won’t miss from there. He needs to find space in that area in prem too!”
Cody Gakpo is too wide for Liverpool
It may sound silly as wingers’ jobs are mostly to hug the touchline and keep the width, but this is not what Gakpo is good at.
At Liverpool, fans know all too well, as shown by their frustration, Gakpo is best when he cuts inside and can curl a shot or cross towards the goal.
However, when he plays for the Reds, he is so far wide that he cannot cause too much danger from out there.
As for the Netherlands, he is always close to the box, meaning he can produce his trademark shot at goal to good effect or be able to link up better with those around him.
How Arne Slot solves this is a whole other kettle of fish, though, as Liverpool do not want to become too narrow, but for Gakpo’s form, it might be best if there was a slight adjustment to his positioning.
