Ibrahima Konate has dominated headlines at Liverpool this season.
He’s always been spoken about by fans and the media, but this term, he’s getting most of his attention due to his poor performances.
Although the Frenchman isn’t solely to blame for Liverpool’s form, a lot of the goals they’ve conceded have come due to the centre-back’s mistakes.
In Liverpool’s last game against Chelsea, the defender was hooked early, with most thinking that it was due to the way he was playing.

Whereas, now that he’s missed a training session with France, it’s clear that it was due to an injury.
Ibrahima Konate has injured his quadriceps while playing for Liverpool
Over the years, Konate has missed a fair few games through injury.
Although he’s not been as injury-prone as Joe Gomez, he’s still missed plenty of games, which has left the Reds a bit short-handed at times.
Indeed, Virgil van Dijk has often picked up the pieces and helped cover the Frenchman’s absence, but once the Dutchman leaves, it feels like Konate will be the one to step into that role, if he extends his stay, of course.
And now, according to a report from L’Equipe, Konate ‘did not train’ with France’s international squad on Tuesday.
Although not too many details are shared about the defender’s injury, L’Equipe report that Konate’s quadricep pain is ‘persistent’ with there being ‘doubt’ about him playing against Azerbaijan on 10 October.
Liverpool must figure out a way to get Ibrahima Konate back to his best upon his return
There’s no hiding from the fact that Konate has been one of Liverpool’s worst players this season.
The centre-back has performed well below his usual standards, and, at the moment, it feels like a lot more needs to come from him to justify his starting place in Arne Slot’s squad.
Of course, the Reds do have the option of starting Gomez, but with his lack of reliability due to injuries and the poor form he’s also shown, he doesn’t really feel like a much better option.

Liverpool also had Giovanni Leoni to choose from, but seeing as though he tore his ACL while playing against Southampton earlier in the season, he’s going to be out until next year.
At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen, but unless Liverpool and Konate figure out a way to get him back to his ‘authoritative’ self, they may as well kiss their title hopes goodbye.
