Liverpool fans are all saying the same thing about Alexis Mac Allister’s performance vs Chelsea

It has been a rough start for Liverpool trying to regain their form against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca’s side took a 1-0 lead through a stunning Moises Caicedo strike, which was unstoppable for Giorgi Mamardashvili on his Premier League debut.

It was a mixed opener with the Reds having such a quick start to the game, piling on the pressure early with a few chances in and around the box, but even before the goal, there were signs of fragility.

There is not much in the game, but Arne Slot’s team has looked frustrated by their opponents, who are not expected to win this game.

Alexis Mac Allister had failed to close down Caicedo, who was able to take the strike on in an abundance of space, which has caused the visitors to be on the back foot.

Liverpool fans criticise Alexis Mac Allister’s poor performance

The Argentine has struggled this season with recurring fitness and injury issues, which have really affected his performances.

However, he has not faced as much criticism as fellow teammates such as Florian Wirtz as Mac Allister came into the club for a much lower fee.

Now, after this first half of football, Liverpool fans are all in agreement that the 26-year-old has not been good enough since the beginning of the season, especially during this match.

One fan has spoken about how the midfielder has not faced the criticism that Wirtz has as he believes the German does not deserve to be on the bench.

He wrote: “Mac Allister is the midfielder that needs to be on the bench at the minute, no Wirtz. He’s been awful this season but because he wasn’t £116m like Wirtz he isn’t getting the criticism.”

Another fan on X agreed with the sentiment of no one speaking about how poorly the player has been since the start of this season.

“Another player that nobody talks about his price anymore because he’s just that damn good. Poor from Mac Allister to dive in like that and a Liverpool defender should’ve been closed him down. He even hesitated before the actual shot. Should’ve never happened,” they wrote.

Two Liverpool fans on X were in agreement about his poor defensive play this season, which was highlighted during the Caicedo goal.

One wrote: “Mac Allister is the weak link. Should not be playing where he is I’ve been saying it for weeks now. No defensive discipline at all.”

Another agreed: “MAC ALLISTER CLOSE HIM DOWN MAYBE?”

Instead of Mac Allister starting the next games it seems fans would like to see Curtis Jones return to the starting XI instead.

“This midfield is soft man, playing an out of form Mac Allister over Jones made no sense from the get go,” they wrote.

Another agreed: “What does Jones have to do to start over Mac Allister? How many more poor games can he have? We’re on 9 now and counting.”

Liverpool are not clicking at the moment

The Chelsea game has shown that the team is still not in harmony and even with the positive changes made Slot has struggled to get them to click.

A half-time team talk to get their heads back into the game is sorely needed because something needs to change, whether that is substitutes or tactics.

Hopefully, the Reds can overturn this deficit and give travelling fans a performance deserving of going down to London.
