Liverpool supporters will get their first real look at Giorgi Mamardashvili in the coming matches, with Alisson Becker sidelined having picked up another injury issue.
After missing 20 Premier League matches over the past two seasons, Alisson is no stranger to some time on the sidelines.
It is why Liverpool forked out almost £30m to sign Mamardashvili in 2024, despite their regular number one being arguably the best around.
Alisson has proven his quality once again during the early weeks of the season, and was even injured while making a big save to deny Victor Osimhen on Tuesday.
As good as the Brazilian is, Liverpool will feel they are in safe hands with Mamardashvili, and hopefully the Georgian can confirm that feeling when the Reds take on Chelsea this weekend.
Arne Slot has already ruled Alisson out of facing Chelsea, but with another international break on the horizon, an early indication has been offered of whether the No. 1 will miss further games.
Alisson Becker set to miss several weeks
With Alisson’s injury issues becoming commonplace in recent times, it has been vital that Liverpool have had a good number two.
Caoimhin Kelleher proved to be that over four years as Alisson’s understudy, and now is the time for Mamardashvili to step up and show he can do it too.

The 25-year-old may privately be hoping for a good run in the team, and journalist James Pearce has suggested that he may get at least a few games.
According to Pearce, there’s an expectation that Alisson will be missing for ‘a few weeks.’
“Liverpool waiting to learn extent of hamstring injury Alisson suffered against Galatasaray,” the reporter posted on X late on Wednesday evening.
“Keeper yet to undergo scan but should get clarity in next 24hrs. Expectation is that he’ll be out for at least a few weeks.”
Alisson not included in Brazil squad
Of course, the presence of an international break immediately after Alisson’s injury could mean the goalkeeper misses fewer matches for Liverpool.
The Reds will hope their first choice can be back fit to face Manchester United in a huge game on October 19th.
In the meantime, Alisson has not been included in the Brazil squad to face South Korea and Japan over the two weeks.
His absence will leave the door open for Ederson to impress Carlo Ancelotti and fight for the number one spot ahead of the World Cup.
More clarity should come very soon, but the early signs look as though Alisson could miss the next two or three for Liverpool.
