Jamie Carragher says one Liverpool player was actually ‘outstanding’ vs Galatasaray

Liverpool were embarrassed by Galatasaray on Tuesday evening as the Turkish Super Lig side beat them 1-0 in their Champions League tie.

Arne Slot’s men performed well below their usual levels and have a lot of making up to do for their fans.

The Reds’ last couple of games have been far from the usual standards that Liverpool fans have of their team, and at the moment, it doesn’t feel like they’re even ready to compete for any sort of titles.

Although most of Liverpool’s team were poor against Galatasaray, there were the odd one or two players who had a decent game compared to their teammates, with Jamie Carragher even dubbing one “outstanding.”

Jamie Carragher believes Alisson was ‘outstanding’ for Liverpool before his injury

One player who has been consistently good for Liverpool over the last few years is Alisson.

The Brazilian is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, with the former Roma man often single-handedly earning the Reds points.

The 2025-26 season has been no different either, with Slot making Alisson his number one ‘keeper once again.

And, in the Reds’ 1-0 loss on Tuesday, he was arguably Liverpool’s best player with Carragher showering him with praise while live on CBS Sports Golazo.

“What happens here, he [Konate] goes through Osimhen, the goalkeeper [Alisson] again, who was outstanding, saved another 1v1, gets injured,” he said.

“I don’t know what he’s done, but the injury comes from Konate again; this is happening every game.”

Liverpool could end up losing so many more games without Alisson in the net

Alisson has probably been Liverpool’s best player this season.

Of course, Hugo Ekitike is a close second, but without Alisson between the sticks, Liverpool would be nowhere near as good as they are now.

Granted, they do have Giorgi Mamardashvili as their backup this season, but it’s going to be hard for the Georgian to live up to the standards that Alisson has set this term.

Slot needs to get his team back firing soon, otherwise things could end up going south rather quickly.

At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen, but if Alisson is out for an extended period, it’ll be hard for Liverpool to get back to their best in the next couple of weeks.
