Liverpool have been one of the most dominant teams in the world over the last couple of years.
Last term, Arne Slot managed to bring the Premier League title to Anfield at the first time of asking without really breaking a sweat.
This season, things have got off to the perfect start once again, with Liverpool only losing one game across all competitions thus far.
Although this is an impressive feat, none of this would be possible if the Reds didn’t have some of the best players in the world among their ranks.

In fact, Alan Shearer has even admitted that the Anfield outfit have a player who is better than Didier Drogba ever was, despite the impact he had when playing for Chelsea.
Alan Shearer thinks Mohamed Salah is a better player than Didier Drogba
Mohamed Salah has undoubtedly been Liverpool’s best player over the last few years.
The attacker contributed to over 50 goals across all competitions last term and, although things have started slowly with the Egyptian King this term, his quality is still more than noticeable.
Indeed, now that Alexander Isak is among the Reds’ ranks, there won’t be as much pressure upon his shoulders to perform to the best standards possible each week.
This is why, when Shearer was asked to blind rank five Premier League players, it’s not a surprise to see him named above some of the league’s stalwarts.
“I’m hoping that you’ve got some absolute superstars on there, so I’m going to say three [for Didier Drogba],” he said to GOAL.
“He [Erling Haaland] hasn’t been here as long, so I’m going to say four.”
Thierry Henry was the next player who came up with Shearer, putting him at number one, while Mohamed Salah followed closely behind in second.
The final player to pop up was himself, which meant that he had to be put fifth on the list.
Mohamed Salah is still likely to be Liverpool’s stand-out player this season
It goes without saying that the 2024-25 season was the best of Salah’s career.
The attacker broke multiple records last term, so it isn’t all that much of a surprise to see him performing below the standards he set last season.
And, although things have started a bit slower, that doesn’t mean his form won’t pick up as the season goes on.

A lot of Liverpool’s players still need to gel with one another, and when they do, it’s hard to think of a team that will be able to stop them.
Of course, these are all things to think about in the future, but the fact that Salah was chosen over Drogba as the better player by Shearer shows how much of an impact he’s had on the Premier League since he joined from Roma.
