Liverpool may have found their perfect Ibrahima Konate replacement, and it isn’t Dayot Upamecano

Liverpool have been one of the best teams in the world for the last couple of years, with their centre-backs one of the main things behind their success.

Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate have saved the Reds on more than one occasion over the last few years, with the duo managing to form a more-than-solid partnership that most other Premier League teams are envious of.

However, since Konate’s contract is set to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season, rumours have started to surface about his future, with Real Madrid the team most linked with a move for him.

They prised Trent Alexander-Arnold away from his boyhood club this season, with Los Blancos looking to weaken Arne Slot’s men once again this term.

However, since Konate’s future is unknown, several rumours have started to emerge about new centre-backs that could be brought in.

Links with Marc Guehi and Dayot Upamecano have surfaced over the last few weeks; however, it’s the Reds’ links with Juventus’ Gleison Bremer that should pique the interest of Liverpool’s fans.

The centre-back has been one of the Old Lady’s most important players this term, but, due to the performances he’s been putting in, a move to Liverpool has been rumoured.

Liverpool are in a three-horse battle to sign Gleison Bremer

Compared to some of Liverpool’s signings this season, Bremer is on the older side, with the Brazilian being 28 years old.

However, he’s played every minute of Juventus’ season thus far, with the centre-back being an integral part of Igor Tudor’s plans.

However, according to a report from TEAMtalk, they’re preparing for a ‘fight’ to keep Bremer among their ranks this term.

Several Premier League clubs have started to ‘intensify’ their interest in the defender, with Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea all vying for his signature.

Bremer is ‘high on the radar’ for each of the three clubs, with all of them believed to have scouted him over the last year or so.

Although Juventus are ‘adamant’ that he’s a ‘central figure’ to their plans, that won’t stop clubs from trying to sign him.

Gleison Bremer would be a perfect addition over Marc Guehi and Dayot Upamecano

As mentioned, Bremer is a little older than the players that Liverpool have signed to bolster their ranks this season.

However, since the Reds have gone from being a fairly old and experienced team to a relatively young one this summer, they could still do with some experienced heads in and around the first-team squad.

That is, especially if Konate ends up leaving as he’s expected to this season.

Most Liverpool fans would want the Frenchman to stay, and even though Upamecano would be a free agent, it feels like his injury history leaves a lot to be desired.

Guehi would also be a free agent, but with the recent reports that have surfaced around him preferring a move to Real Madrid over Liverpool, it feels like a move for the Englishman could end up being off the table.

At the moment, it’s unclear who Slot is going to go for if Konate leaves, but one thing is certain: they won’t be short of options to choose from if he does exit Anfield next summer.
