Liverpool have been in fine form this season after their massive summer of spending.
Over £400million was spent on the Reds’ new arrivals, with Arne Slot clearly noticing areas of his team that needed upgrading.
A lot of Liverpool’s signings this summer could have been marquee additions for their Premier League rivals, but looking at the quality the Merseyside outfit have brought in, it’s clear that they’ve outdone their rivals.
Hugo Ekitike was one of the most-wanted players by Premier League clubs this term, with Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United all trying to sign him alongside Liverpool.

In the end, he ended up with the Reds, but now, rumours have started to emerge about him potentially regretting his decision.
Julian Laurens doesn’t understand how Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak will be kept happy by Liverpool
After the sales of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez were sanctioned during the summer transfer window, it was clear that the Reds’ attack was going to have a massive revamp.
Initially, most fans and pundits expected Liverpool to sign Alexander Isak and call it quits there.
Instead, they ended up signing Isak, Wirtz, and Ekitike to bolster their ranks.
And, even though Wirtz and Ekitike were the first ones to join, it feels like Isak is going to be the talk of the town for most of the season, especially since the former Newcastle man has now made his Liverpool debut.
And, ahead of their Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid, journalist Julian Laurens questioned how the dynamic of Ekitike and Isak is going to work this season.
“I really don’t think so [that Ekitike would have joined if he knew Isak was coming],” he said on BBC Radio Five Live.
“I really think he signed after a first approach from Liverpool to Newcastle for Isak when Newcastle closed the door, and I think probably from a Liverpool point of view, that was before Isak went on strike.
“Then they kind of reverted to Ekitike, who was on his way to Newcastle in the first place because he was supposed to be the replacement of Isak or if nobody came for Isak, then to play them together.
“We knew that as soon as Isak would be fit, the one to be dropped would be Hugo; it was just very clear.
“Can they play together? Of course, they can, through games, you can play Ekitike from the start and maybe on the left, but that’s not his position really.
“I’m not sure how well this kind of works so it was just one of Isak and Ekitike, and it’s never going to be Ekitike ahead of Isak.”
Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike need to find a way to play with one another
It’s clear that Isak and Ekitike will be battling it out for most of the 2025-26 season.
Both strikers deserve to be starting for Liverpool, but, in reality, there’s only really one that can be used in the Reds’ starting XI.
Of course, they could both be used on the left wing if needed, but with the form that both players showed last term, it’s evident that both would perform much better as number nines.

However, due to the way that Slot has chosen to set his team up, it won’t be possible for both to be used as strikers.
And, although rotating the two could end up working out for the better as the season goes on, if there’s a period where one isn’t started for three or four games, problems could arise.
