Michail Antonio thinks he’s already spotted one problem Alexander Isak will have at Liverpool

Liverpool have made a lot of changes to their team this season.

However, throughout the summer transfer window, Alexander Isak’s name kept on popping up and refused to go away.

The striker was Arne Slot’s number one target this summer, and even though it took until deadline day, the Dutchman finally got his man.

It’s undeniable that Isak is an exceptional talent, but with the number of players they’ve brought in and how stacked Liverpool’s number nine spot is now, Michail Antonio believes a problem could be brewing.

Michail Antonio believes Liverpool will have “teething problems” this season

At the moment, things are going well for Liverpool with the Merseyside outfit winning their first three top-flight games.

And, even though they’re on top of the Premier League table, there have been some dodgy moments since the 2025-26 season kicked off.

Indeed, Slot didn’t have all of his new players at his disposal when they lost to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield final, but now that he does, the Reds are likely to be in a much better place.

However, while speaking to TNT Sports, former West Ham United striker Michail Antonio gave his thoughts on the “teething problems” that Liverpool will face this season.

“I think it’s going to be a hard decision for Slot,” he said.

“You thought Isak was going to be your No. 9, but now Ekitike has come in, he can’t not be the No. 9 right now. So what is he going to do?

“Isak has come in to play, so will he play him off the left? Because Mo isn’t moving from the right. How are you going to do it?

“There will definitely be some teething problems and how will he deal with the egos because they are massive players and Ekitike has done well enough to be No. 9.”

Arne Slot must find a way to keep Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike happy at Liverpool

Since Isak only made the move to Liverpool on transfer deadline day, Ekitike was Slot’s first-choice striker.

And, with the form that he found himself in, he more than repaid the Dutchman’s faith in him, with the Frenchman arguably being Liverpool’s best signing thus far.

Of course, now that Isak has joined, his role is likely to change a fair bit, but since he can be deployed on the left wing, he’s going to have to use his pace and agility to make an impact.

Isak, on the other hand, while he may only be able to play as a striker, he’ll have to prove that he can handle the pressure of leading a team the size of Liverpool.

Indeed, he’s already proved he can do it in the Premier League, but now that he plays for a team that is expected to win every competition they enter, it’ll be interesting to see if he can continue proving his worth.

At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen, but the fact that the Anfield outfit now have two world-class number nines among their ranks is a rather nice treat for the Reds’ fans.
