Joleon Lescott says there’s one thing Alexander Isak definitely won’t do at Liverpool this season

Alexander Isak was Liverpool’s biggest transfer of the summer window.

Since the start of June, the striker was on top of Arne Slot’s shortlist, with the Sweden international also wanting to make the move.

Indeed, it may have taken until deadline day to get the transfer over the line, but even just in the glimpses that we’ve seen of the striker in Liverpool’s training sessions, he looks to be in top form.

Liverpool also signed Hugo Ekitike in the summer transfer window, and now that the Reds have two world-class strikers among their ranks, it’s unclear what plans Slot has for the duo this season.

And, even though Isak was arguably the Premier League’s best striker last term, Joleon Lescott has dropped his verdict on what the Sweden international might not end up doing at Liverpool this season.

Seeing as though Isak can only be used as a striker, it feels likely that the former Newcastle man will be leading Liverpool’s attack as their number nine.

This means that Ekitike and Cody Gakpo will both be used on the left, with Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa the most likely to play on the right.

And, although Isak will have the likes of Florian Wirtz and Salah to provide him with assists, Lescott doesn’t think that he’ll end up being the Reds’ top scorer, especially after what Salah did last term.

“Oh, no way [whether Isak will be Liverpool’s top scorer], he said while on All Out Football.”

“Salah, Salah is taking all the pens, he’s going to take all the pens, isn’t he. I also believe that they will rotate Isak; Salah isn’t getting rotated.”

Although Isak may have bagged over 20 Premier League goals last season, the fact that Salah ended up being the top scorer in the league says all you need to know.

Salah had the best season of his career last term, and without him among their ranks, Liverpool would’ve been far worse off.

Indeed, there was the odd game here and there when he wasn’t at his best, but more often than not, he came through for Slot’s men.

However, when looking back at Isak’s form last term, it was clear that he was Eddie Howe’s best player.

The Sweden international can create chances from nothing and, during his time at St James’ Park, he managed to form a rather special bond with Anthony Gordon.

And, even though he’ll likely miss Gordon being beside him, the fact that he now has players of even higher quality around him surely means that he can only get better.

Of course, it’ll be a tall order for Isak to beat the Egyptian King to Liverpool’s golden boot, but if his form from last season carries over or even improves, Slot could have a rather deadly attacking duo on his hands.
