Diogo Jota’s passing was one of the toughest moments any Liverpool fan will likely have to go through.

The striker was set for a season of redemption with the Portugal international constantly sidelined due to injury last term.

However, that unfortunately didn’t come to fruition with the 28-year-old taken away far too soon.

Although his passing was a few months ago now, Liverpool and Portugal are both keeping his name alive with his country’s fanbase doing something spectacular in his memory during their 3-2 win versus Hungary on Tuesday.

Athletic journalist left in awe of Portugal after what they did in the 20th minute of their game

As has been the case for most of the season thus far, something has happened in the 20th minute of the game to celebrate Jota’s life.

This is likely to occur over the course of the season, with Liverpool and Portugal both wanting to carry on his legacy.

Although it won’t change what happened, the fact that his legacy can live on with his club and country is truly spectacular.

And, as per a report from Athletic journalist Gregg Evans, Portugal’s fans didn’t disappoint as they all stood up for a minute of applause in Jota’s name.

“The Puskas Arena stands on the 20th minute for a one minute applause in memory of Diogo Jota and during it, Hungary take the lead through Vargas,” he wrote via his personal X account.

“Wow. 1-0.”

Liverpool must win the Premier League and Champions League in honour of Diogo Jota

Although Liverpool will be expected to come away with the Premier League and Champions League trophies this season, it feels like it means even more to the Reds now.

The 2025-26 season was always going to be one of change due to the sheer number of players that have been brought in.

However, with Jota’s passing likely to weigh heavily on the heads of his teammates, they’ll want to win them in his honour.

But, now that Alexander Isak has joined for £125million, Slot’s first-team squad certainly have the quality to win both trophies.

Indeed, there’s a long road ahead of them, with there likely to be some bumps along the way, but with how Liverpool have performed thus far, it’s hard to see how they won’t be the team to beat.

At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen, but for now, the Anfield outfit needs to focus on getting their new players gelled together and proving to the rest of the Premier League that they’re even more dominant than they were last season.
