Richard Keys says he’s now read something about Alexander Isak that’s absolute ‘nonsense’

Alexander Isak’s transfer to Liverpool dominated the headlines over the last few weeks of the window.

Since June, it’s been expected that Isak would end up becoming a Liverpool player, but until the £125million fee was agreed upon, nothing was set in stone.

And, now that the Sweden international is officially one of Arne Slot’s men, it begs the question of what role Hugo Ekitike will now have within the squad.

Indeed, Isak’s Premier League experience will likely earn him the nod over his teammate, but with the performances that Ekitike has been putting in thus far, it’s going to be hard for Slot to drop him.

Seeing as though Isak’s transfer saga was the talk of the town for a fair few weeks, it got everyone talking about it, with Richard Keys now chipping in with his opinion.

Isak was the Premier League’s best striker last season by a country mile.

The number nine was the first name on Eddie Howe’s teamsheet, and although he’d become a bit of a club legend at St James’ Park, he tarnished that bond after he refused to play for the club.

This resulted in several people voicing their opinions, with former Newcastle ace Nobby Solano believing that Isak could have topped Alan Shearer’s goal-scoring record for the Magpies and, eventually, be worshipped by the Newcastle fans.

However, Keys didn’t agree with this as he shared the following via his personal X account: “I’ll tell you what’s Shear madness – this view,” he wrote.

“Does Solano really believe chasing Shearer’s record is a better career goal than a bucket full of medals?

“Nonsense.”

Alexander Isak can become a Premier League legend at Liverpool

Seeing as though Isak is still just 25 years old, there’s plenty of time for him to become even better.

The striker has signed a six-year contract with Liverpool, and with players such as Mohamed Salah and Florian Wirtz now around him, it’s hard to see how he won’t become even better.

Isak was already seen as the best striker in the top flight this season, but with players of Salah’s and Wirtz’s calibre around him, it’s unfathomable how much more he could develop.

His keen eye for goal, coupled with his blistering pace, are just two of the things that make him the perfect striker for Liverpool.

And, if he does end up sticking out the entire six-year contract at Anfield, he could easily become a Premier League legend, especially if he continues to bag more than 20 goals per season.

At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen, but for now, it feels like Liverpool are in a rather good place, especially if they want to retain the Premier League title this term.
