Liverpool have dominated the headlines over the last few weeks.
Whether it be transfer news or the performances of their players, they’ve been the ones to watch this season.
The Reds have spent over £400million on new signings for their first-team squad this summer and, since they’ve also won all three of their Premier League games, they’re now sitting on top of the table.
And, even though rival fans are confused by how the Reds have managed to spend so much and attract such good players, it’s clear that they mean business this term.

This is a good thing, especially if Arne Slot wants to retain the Premier League title this season.
Chris Sutton believes that Alexander Isak is “disrespectful” because of his Liverpool transfer
One of the main stories that has kept the entire footballing world hooked this summer was the future of Alexander Isak.
It’s been clear since the start of June that both Isak and Liverpool wanted the move to go through.
And, although it took until deadline day for his contract to be signed, the Reds finally got their man.
Isak’s move has caused plenty of opinions to emerge this summer, with Joe Hart and Chris Sutton both sharing their thoughts on Isak’s transfer while live on the Football Daily Podcast.
“What’s wrong with Alexander Isak standing his ground and saying I want to go to Liverpool,” Hart said.
Sutton then replied with: “It’s all about the contract because he’s under contract.”
Hart then said: “Well, it’s obviously not because he’s gone, the contract means nothing, you can say you want the contract to mean something, but it doesn’t because he’s gone to Liverpool.
Sutton then added: “I know he’s gone, but he’s getting slammed for going and he’s got his own way.
“Obviously, he doesn’t [care what anyone thinks], he’s selfish, and he’s disrespectful.”
Alexander Isak must hit the ground running instantly at Liverpool
The 2025-26 season is likely to be full of ridicule for Isak.
No matter which team he’s facing this season, if he doesn’t perform to a high standard, it’s clear that he’s going to be targeted by fans as well as the media.
Isak’s £125million transfer to Liverpool managed to break the British transfer record fee by some distance, and if he doesn’t at least put up similar numbers to what he did for Newcastle last season, most will deem his move a failure.
Of course, he has six years to prove his worth due to the length of his contract, but if he wants to prove why Richard Hughes broke the bank for him, he needs to score as many goals as possible.

Only time will tell what the future has in store, but at the moment, it feels like Liverpool could be in for a rather exciting season.
That is, even if their star signing is seen as a tad “selfish” by some.
