Liverpool have just been through one of the most impressive transfer windows of all time.
Right from the very first day that the summer transfer window was opened in June, it was clear that Alexander Isak was in Arne Slot’s sights.
And, although it took until deadline day for a deal to be reached, Liverpool finally got their man.

The Reds broke the British record transfer fee and paid a whopping £125million to prise Isak from Newcastle, but that isn’t what has left Paul Merson in shock.
Paul Merson cannot believe how late Liverpool left it to confirm their transfers
Even though Liverpool and Isak have both wanted the move to go through for as long as many can remember, it certainly took its sweet time to get the signatures needed on the dotted line.
Now that the Reds have the Sweden international among their ranks, they have five senior attackers to choose from, with two of them being world-class number nines.
And, even though having strength in depth is key to winning titles, it’s still a bit mental that Liverpool spent over £400million to get there.
While live on Sky Sports, Merson was talking about Liverpool’s transfer business and claimed that it was “ridiculous” how late they left it to finalise their deals.
“The problem now is Slot’s got decisions to make. If Ekitike comes in, Gakpo won’t play. If Gakpo goes out to the left, then Ekitike won’t play. He’s got a few problems coming up,” he said.
“For me, Szoboszlai plays. I know he’s filled in at right-back, but he’ll have to come back into midfield. Did they win the league last year because their midfield was outstanding with Gravenberch, Mac Allister and Szoboszlai?
“All of a sudden, Wirtz is in there, a £100m player, and at the moment it isn’t working. So he’s got a lot of decisions to make. I just think, why don’t they sort it for early doors instead of waiting until the last minute? It’s ridiculous, really.”

Liverpool must retain the Premier League title this season
Even before Isak was tipped to join Liverpool, they were seen as the favourites to come away with the Premier League title.
And, to make things even sweeter, the Reds have actually had a perfect start to their top-flight game as they’ve managed to win all three matches they’ve played.
That is, even though Newcastle and Arsenal were both expected to throw the kitchen sink at them and walk all over Slot’s men.
Now that Isak has arrived, however, it now feels like anything but a Premier League title win will be a failure, that is, even if they do come away with the Champions League.
Of course, it’s still early days, and players will need to gel with one another due to the amount of turnover that has occurred, but, in the grand scheme of things, Isak’s arrival only adds more pressure to the Reds’ first-team squad.
That is, even though they were expected to win the title anyway.
