Liverpool still have a few days left of the 2025-26 summer transfer window to make any further signings they desire.

Things have changed quite a lot at Anfield since the window first opened at the start of June, with Arne Slot and Richard Hughes spending a hefty chunk of change on improving their ranks.

At the moment, it’s unclear whether all of their signings will work out.

However, judging by the fact that they’ve won their first two Premier League games, things couldn’t be going much better.

And, with the recent form that some players, such as Ibrahima Konate, have found themselves in, it still feels like a couple of signings need to be made to give Liverpool the best chance of retaining the Premier League title.

Danny Murphy believes signing Marc Guehi for £40million would be a ‘steal’

Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi are two players who have been heavily linked with an Anfield switch this summer.

Ever since Giovanni Leoni arrived, the vast majority of transfer talk to have emerged from Liverpool is where the futures of Isak and Guehi lie.

Both players want to make the move, but with their current clubs sticking firmly to their stance, no progress has been made regarding a deal.

However, while live on talkSPORT, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy gave his thoughts on whether the Reds should step up their chase for Guehi.

“Guehi is calm, he’s quick, he’s experienced and even if they have to pay £40million for him, it’s a steal, players of his ability, they’re double the price,” he said.

“Just get it done.”

Liverpool must sign Marc Guehi this summer

On the face of things, it’s clear that Liverpool must sign a new attacker and a new defender this summer.

Those two areas of Slot’s first-team squad are the weakest at the moment, and if they go into the 2025-26 season with no more additions, they could find themselves in a whole world of trouble.

Indeed, Liverpool now have four senior centre-backs among their ranks, but as mentioned, the recent form of Konate has been a major cause for concern.

If the Reds do end up losing the Frenchman for nothing at the end of the season, they’ll be scrambling to sign a new centre-back next summer.

However, if they sign Guehi now, he could quickly become an essential part of Slot’s plans.

Only time will tell what the future has in store, but of all the signings Liverpool could make at the moment, Guehi feels like the most needed.
