Liverpool begin talks with Serie A club over loan move for ‘brilliant’ player

The Liverpool squad still needs some finishing touches applied to it ahead of the transfer deadline next week.

It has been a good summer window overall for the Reds, with some excellent signings made and some smart outgoing business done as well.

However, fans are likely to be worried if another forward is not signed, while reinforcement in the middle of the defence is also a priority.

There is work to be done in terms of exits as well, with several players potentially set to leave Liverpool before September the 2nd.

As usual, there are expected to be loan moves for some of the Liverpool academy players who are ready to play a season of men’s football away from Anfield. Meanwhile, a couple of first team players may also depart.

Kostas Tsimikas could be one of these after being demoted to third-choice left-back this summer. And as Tsimikas assesses his options, he could reportedly be on the way to Serie A.

Roma in talks with Liverpool over Kostas Tsimikas

There is little doubt that Liverpool can afford to move Tsimikas on over the next week or so.

Although Arne Slot has a problem at right-back currently, the club do not need three out-and-out full-back options for each position.

As a result, Tsimikas should really leave. And according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Greek could end up at Roma.

Writing on his website Gianlucadimarzio.com, Di Marzio claims that Roma have identified Tsimikas as a good deputy for Angelino.

Talks have reportedly been opened with Liverpool, with the Romans looking to bring Tsimikas in on loan.

The deal is described as being ‘not easy’ to complete, but more discussions are said to have been scheduled for the beginning of next week to understand whether the move is possible.

Loan move could make sense for Tsimikas

There had been previous reports this summer that Liverpool did not want to loan Tsimikas out and would instead only consider a permanent sale.

Despite that, at this stage of the window the Reds may have to accept that a loan move is the best, and perhaps only solution.

Besides, a temporary spell away from Liverpool could still make sense for all parties here. Slot has clearly earmarked Milos Kerkez to be his long-term left-back at Anfield, with Andy Robertson’s contract set to come to an end in 2026.

Should Liverpool choose not to renew Robertson, Tsimikas, who Michael Owen described as ‘brilliant‘ last season, could still return next summer and act as an experienced back-up to Kerkez in 2026/27.

It is maybe not ideal, but there would be some sense in the 29-year-old spending a year away, and Roma would feel like a good fit.
