Virgil van Dijk says Liverpool have made a top new signing who nobody is speaking enough about

Liverpool’s transfer window has continued to go from strength to strength after the signing of Hugo Ekitike.

The Reds have been spending heavily over the summer, culminating in Ekitike’s arrival as the latest addition.

The French striker is unlikely to be the last new player joining the Liverpool squad before the market closes, with a move for Alexander Isak rumoured to be on the cards.

If Isak does join, it will likely be for a British record transfer fee, and his arrival would garner headlines across the world.

Not every Liverpool signing has created such a buzz, though, with young goalkeeper Armin Pecsi‘s arrival from the Puskas Academy going a little under the radar.

Having seen Pecsi up close in training over recent weeks, though, captain Virgil van Dijk has suggested that there should be a little more hype over the 20-year-old.

Pecsi arrived as part of a complete remodelling of Liverpool’s goalkeeping department this summer.

Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman have also joined, with significant changes in the coaching roles too.

Given his proximity to the goalkeepers on the pitch, this is likely to be important to Van Dijk.

And, speaking to The Anfield Wrap while in Hong Kong, the Dutchman name-checked Pecsi as someone who has already impressed him.

“Coming to Liverpool, they will definitely have the quality to play for Liverpool,” said Van Dijk on the new signings. “For me, it’s very important as well how you settle in the group and how you fit into the squad that we have. And I think they did perfectly well. All of them.

“We don’t speak about Armin, a young goalie who just came in, has settled in pretty well. Obviously Freddie, Giorgi, Flo, Jeremie. Hugo came today of course. Everyone has to work hard and we’re all in this together, that’s the main thing. We have to fight for everything that’s ahead of us.”

Will Pecsi get some game time?

As Alisson Becker had not yet returned to training, Pecsi played 45 minutes during Liverpool’s behind closed doors friendly against Stoke City last weekend.

However, Alisson has since returned, and Pecsi once again finds himself as fourth choice in the pecking order.

As a result, it seems unlikely that the youngster will get on the pitch during matches against AC Milan and Yokohama F. Marinos in the coming days.

Nevertheless, there is a chance that Alisson is deemed not quite ready yet. In that scenario, Pecsi playing some part in the first game in particular cannot be ruled out.

The Hungarian is highly rated, and being in and around the senior players will have done him the world of good this summer. It may not be straight away that we see the best of Pecsi, but if Van Dijk is already impressed, then he clearly has a big future.
