Liverpool supporters are growing in excitement at the possibility of Alexander Isak joining from Newcastle United.

Isak has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League since arriving at Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022.

And, although the Swede is likely to cost a British record transfer fee if he leaves St James’ Park this summer, the chances of that happening are seemingly getting larger by the day.

Reports from Friday suggest Newcastle players are expecting Isak to join Liverpool, with the 25-year-old having failed to report for the Magpies’ pre-season tour to Singapore.

If Isak does move to Liverpool, he will be the latest in a long list of players aiming to emulate club top goal scorer Ian Rush.

And as he prepares for the possibility of another top striker potentially taking his No. 9 shirt, Rush has given an early verdict on Isak.

Ian Rush’s praises ‘incredible’ Alexander Isak

Rush will likely forever remain the greatest goal-getter in Liverpool history. His tally of 346 goals for the club will surely never be beaten.

Having spent so many years sticking the ball in the net for the Reds, Rush is now a club ambassador, and is regularly spotted on tours such as the current trip to Hong Kong.

While there, the Welshman has been asked by Chinese outlet CGTN Sports Scene for his thoughts on Liverpool’s chances of signing Isak.

“I think every club in the world would like to sign him,” said the Liverpool legend. “The way he performed last season was incredible.”

“I watched him in the Carabao Cup final when he played against Liverpool, he was probably man of the match. So, I think every club in the world would like him.

“No one knows what’s happening, I don’t know what’s happening,” Rush admitted. “But I think if he was available I’m pretty sure every top club would like to sign him.”

Rush praises Liverpool transfer business

As well as looking ahead to some deals which could potentially still be completed, Rush praised the Liverpool owners for the business already done this year.

“Last season we only signed one player, this season we need maybe four or five new players and that’s what they’ve done,” said the 63-year-old.

“All credit to the owners, they’ve given the manager the money to do that. It’s competition for places and I’m actually excited watching these two games and for the start of the season.”

Rush will no doubt also be keeping an eye on how Hugo Ekitike does as he aims to become the latest prolific goal scorer for Liverpool.

But while excitement lies all over the place within the Liverpool window, there is little question that Isak is now the big-ticket item.
