Since the transfer window first opened, it’s been clear that Liverpool were going to have a massive summer.

The Reds have now spent close to £300million on improving their first-team squad with Hugo Ekitike the latest player to be added to Arne Slot’s ranks.

Last season, Liverpool were already one of the hardest teams to beat in the Premier League, and now, with all these new players joining the club, it’s hard to see how they won’t come away with the title once again.

Indeed, there is the slight chance that one or two of their new signings could end up flopping, but, with the form that players such as Ekitike and Florian Wirtz put on show last season, that feels rather unlikely.

And, it seems like Liverpool aren’t done yet as a major update has been shared on one of their rumoured transfer targets.

Crystal Palace have told Marc Guehi that they intend to sell him this summer

One of the main areas that Slot still needs to add some depth to is centre-back.

Liverpool only have three senior options available to them at the moment after Jarell Quansah was sold to Bayer Leverkusen.

And now, while speaking on the Market Madness Podcast, journalist Ben Jacobs shared an update on the future of Marc Guehi amid the recent interest shown in him by Liverpool.

“Crystal Palace have told Marc Guehi in the last 48 hours that their preference is for a sale,” he said.

“This is knowing that he will not sign a new deal, and clubs have now been informed that Crystal Palace would welcome bids because they don’t want to lose him on a free transfer.

“Liverpool could be one option. It’ll be interesting to see whether they also react to Chelsea opening talks for Jorrel Hato because he’s another name on their list, but Guehi and Liverpool could develop.”

Marc Guehi would be an incredible transfer for Liverpool

There’s no hiding from the fact that Guehi is England’s best centre-back at the moment.

However, now that he’s entered the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, this could be the best time for the Englishman to make a move.

At the moment, he’s Crystal Palace’s captain, so the Eagles are demanding a fee worth around £45million for his services.

However, Liverpool are only likely to make a bid for the centre-back if the price tag for him drops over the next couple of weeks.

Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk are Slot’s starting options at the moment, but with the future of the Frenchman still up in the air, a spot could be opening up in Liverpool’s starting XI sooner than many think.

Of course, these are all just rumours at the moment, but if Guehi’s price is knocked down to around £35-£40million before the end of the window, it’s a move that Liverpool must throw everything towards.
