It’s a well-known fact that Liverpool are in the market for a new centre-back this summer.
At the moment, Arne Slot only has three senior centre-backs among his ranks, which is nowhere near enough for an entire season.
The Reds did have four senior options at the start of the transfer window, but since Jarell Quansah was sold to Bayer Leverkusen for £35million, they’ve been left a bit light at the back.

And, with the recent rumours surrounding the future of Ibrahima Konate, it’s clear to see why the Reds are getting linked with new players every day.
Liverpool could make a move for Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa this summer
Each of the three centre-backs that Liverpool have at their disposal are in the prime of their careers.
All of them bring something different to the team, with Virgil van Dijk arguably the best of the lot.
However, seeing as though three centre-backs isn’t enough cover for an entire Premier League season, it’s not surprising to see that the Reds have been linked with yet another centre-back.
That is, as per a report from Spanish outlet Galicia Press, who share that although the Reds’ ‘priority’ would be to bring Marc Guehi to Anfield, their ‘plan B’ is Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa.
The report outlines that the defender has gone through some ‘outstanding progression’ under Unai Emery, with a move for the Villans’ defender also being ‘somewhat cheaper’ than a move for Guehi.

Liverpool still have some recruitment to do this summer
Once the transfer of Hugo Ekitike is completed, Liverpool will have spent close to £300million on improving their first-team squad.
And, with several players such as Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa all potentially on their way out of Anfield, there’s still plenty more moves that can be made.
If all three of the aforementioned attackers leave this summer, some new ones will certainly need to be added, but at the moment, a new centre-back should be Slot’s priority.
Indeed, Wataru Endo can play in centre-back if required, but if Liverpool want to be one of the most dominant teams in Europe again, they’ll need to have at least two players fighting for every position.
Of course, only time will tell what the future has in store, but whether it’s Konsa, Guehi or someone else, Liverpool must bring in a new centre-back before deadline day.
However, on the face of things, since Konsa has already been described as one of the “best” defenders in the Premier League, a move for the Aston Villa ace makes plenty of sense.
