Steven Gerrard has produced his fair share of sensational strikes during his time but he has also seen plenty scored against the club he loves.

The former Liverpool captain is one of the best players to ever pull on the red shirt and his loyalty, mixed with his ability of course, makes him the definition of a legend.

He was capable of doing everything from midfield and put his body on the line game after game, but the thing he was best known for was his long-range goals.

Whether it was the beauty against Olympiacos in the Champions League or the last-minute stunner against West Ham in the FA Cup, Gerrard certainly knows where the back of the net is.

That being said, this gives him the authority to speak on this topic, with the Englishman revealing the best goal he has ever seen live, and he still hasn’t forgiven the player to this day.

Steven Gerrard picks Gareth Bale’s Champions League final goal as the best he has seen live

After featuring 710 times for Liverpool across his 17-year Anfield career, Gerrard has probably seen a good amount of unbelievable goals during that time, both for and against the Reds.

However, the best goal he has seen live actually came after he finished his playing career, with all Liverpool fans remembering it for the wrong reasons.

When asked the question on TNT Sports’ TikTok account, he said: : “Gareth Bale, Champions League final, unfortunately against my team, which I still haven’t forgiven him for.”

The goal he is referring to is the bicycle kick the Welshman produced in the 2018 final to make it 2-1, although this game was largely overshadowed by Loris Karius’ goalkeeping howlers.

Madrid went on to win 3-1 and stopped the Reds from picking up their sixth European title, although they only had to wait a year to finally get their hands on it.

If a prime Gerrard had played in that game, who knows what will have happened, but no matter how much it still hurts, there is no denying that Bale’s goal was simply out of this world.

Steven Gerrard’s best goal for Liverpool

It is safe to say that this could be a very long list and it is almost impossible to choose one, but as previously mentioned, his goal against Olympiacos is, arguably, his best goal in a Liverpool shirt.

The Reds were locked into a very tense encounter and needed to win by two goals to complete the great escape and make it out of Group A.

After going 1-0 down early on, Liverpool found themselves 2-1 up with five minutes to go, although a goal just did not seem to be coming.

However, as the man for all the big occasions, up stepped the captain. ‘A lovely cushioned header for Gerrard’ as the commentator said, and the rest is history.

His inch-perfect, half-volley rifled into the back of the net and sent Liverpool through to the knockout stages, with this goal going down in the history of the club.
