Bayern Munich bosses yet to decide on Cody Gakpo stance as Liverpool exit remains possible

Cody Gakpo had an impressive season for Liverpool during the 2024-25 campaign.

The Dutchman, alongside Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah, were among the best attackers in the Premier League and were some of the main reasons why the Reds came away with the title.

Diaz and Gakpo were often used out of position as strikers due to Darwin Nunez failing to perform.

This, however, didn’t stop the duo from contributing to 50 goals altogether and cementing themselves in Liverpool’s starting XI.

This form hasn’t gone unnoticed, with both attackers on the radar of multiple teams across Europe.

Bayern Munich haven’t decided whether they want to make a move for Cody Gakpo yet

Bayern Munich are on the hunt for a new left-winger this summer, with one of the main targets, Nico Williams, now being taken off the table.

Liverpool stars Diaz and Gakpo have both been linked with a move to the Allianz Arena over the last few weeks, with Bayern insider Christian Falk now sharing the Bundesliga outfit’s stance on the Dutchman.

“The Dutchman is still one of Max Eberl’s candidates. Not all of the other bosses are convinced,” he said to his CF Bayern website.

“The question is still being discussed internally: Is Gakpo really better than Serge Gnabry or Kingsley Coman? Wouldn’t he even be a step down from Leroy Sané?

“Without the backing of the supervisory board, the transfer will be difficult to push through.”

Liverpool cannot allow Cody Gakpo to exit Anfield this summer

It goes without saying that Gakpo is one of Liverpool’s most reliable forwards.

The former PSV man has rarely ever put a foot wrong with his clinical nature among the best assets of his game.

The fact that the Dutchman can also play on the left wing or as a striker is also a major bonus, as, with the number of games that are played each season, players need to be able to play in more than one position.

While Diaz may be allowed to go as he only has two years left on his deal, Gakpo is younger and, to be honest, has a much higher ceiling than the Colombian at the moment.

Indeed, there’s bound to be some movement at Anfield as Liverpool need to recoup some of the money they’ve spent, but it feels like getting rid of Gakpo would be a massive mistake.
