Liverpool are moving with purpose in the transfer market this summer, with the goalkeeping department seeing plenty of change so far.

The Reds have lost Caoimhin Kelleher to Brentford, bringing in Giorgi Mamardashvili as his replacement one year ahead of time.

Mamardashvili is expected to challenge Alisson Becker for the number one spot next season, as the Brazilian looks to put his injury troubles behind him.

As well as Mamardashvili and Alisson, Liverpool have a plethora of highly rated goalkeepers ready to battle for the third choice spot.

On Saturday, Liverpool confirmed the signing of 20-year-old Hungarian shot-stopper Armin Pecsi, who has arrived as the Reds’ second addition of the summer window.

Although Pecsi was not afforded a welcome interview by Liverpool, the youngster has now been speaking out to confirm what he’s been told about his future with the Reds.

Armin Pecsi ready for long-term Liverpool plan

Pecsi’s arrival is unlikely to garner many headlines during Liverpool’s summer window. The Reds are about to go big on Florian Wirtz and have several more first team additions lined up.

Nevertheless, that Liverpool have signed another impressive young goalkeeper is certainly worthy of note.

With so many options at Arne Slot’s disposal already, some fans may be wondering where Pecsi fits into all of that. Thankfully, the former Puskas Academy keeper has sat down with the Hungarian national team’s official YouTube channel to explain what he’s been told by Liverpool’s recruitment team.

“They see a long-term project that they outlined for me,” says Pecsi. “It’s hard to say this is one sentence because so many matches are analysed in so many different ways, they have data on almost everything that was outlined during the meeting. It was quite astonishing how much attention they paid to every detail.”

“Of course it gives me great motivation that such a club, such data analysts decided on my name, that they want to build me. So, that’s definitely my goal, and I want to show them that they chose the right person for the job.”

“I met with a few members of the medical staff who conducted the various tests and a separate group were responsible for my recruitment,” he adds.

“I talked to them about the project, about what the goals might be in terms of development or even moving forward later. This was the first meeting and everything will depend on the speed of my development.”

Pecsi admits surprise over Liverpool move

As well as going into some of the details of his meetings with Liverpool, Pecsi also spoke about how it felt to hear that the Reds were keen on signing him.

“It was obviously a very good feeling when I first heard about the possible interest, or that they were watching me,” he says.

“And then as things developed and it became clear that it could be something more serious, I was rather shocked, and it occurred to me that it was what I had been working for in recent years, to possibly have such opportunities in my life.

“I was of the opinion that this should definitely be tried, so I hope that only good things will come out of it.”

Although it feels unlikely that Pecsi will be playing for Liverpool in 2025/26, it sounds like there is a long-term plan being formulated behind the scenes.
