Liverpool fans left divided after an update on the club’s Harvey Elliott transfer stance is revealed

Harvey Elliott is a player who has been hyped up by Liverpool fans ever since he entered the first-team fold under Jurgen Klopp.

Elliott was prised away from Fulham’s academy at the age of 16, and while he made fairly regular appearances under Klopp, the same cannot be said for the 2024-25 season.

The performances put in by Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai have all kept the Englishman out of Arne Slot’s plans, which has no doubt been rather detrimental to his progression.

So, it doesn’t come as all that much of a surprise to see Elliott already getting linked with an Anfield exit, with an update since emerging about whether Liverpool will be happy to let him go.

Liverpool fans split as club is open to selling Harvey Elliott

There have been times when Elliott’s class has shone through, but more often than not this term, he has left a lot to be desired.

The player himself has said he’s not sure what his next steps are going to be, with rumours about his future sparked further following Elliott’s interview after Liverpool’s defeat at Brighton.

Since that game, journalist Florian Plettenberg has provided an additional update on the 22-year-old’s future, revealing on Thursday that the Liverpool owners and hierarchy will not stand in Elliott’s way if a suitable offer comes in for him.

This, in turn, has created a bit of friction among the Reds’ fanbase.

“Gutted to see him leave, but it’s best for his career. Too talented to warm Liverpool’s bench. He’ll shine elsewhere and could be an England star! Lucky team that gets him,” one fan wrote.

Another fan also chipped in with their thoughts and said that there is “Still so much potential in Elliott.”

Some fans, however, weren’t as upset with one even stating, “I will drive him there myself!”

This fan added that they “like him. But [it’s] time to go, mate.” Another said somewhat harshly that “Mansfield would be a good move for him.”

Finally, this fan wrote a heartfelt message, saying: “Deserves his chance to play more. We’ll root for him like mad.”

Harvey Elliott has failed to take his opportunities this season

There’s no denying that Elliott’s opportunities to impress Slot have been limited, but when the Dutchman has given him a chance to prove his worth, he’s struggled to make an impact.

The 22-year-old has only started two of the 27 Premier League games he’s featured in and while his last outing against Brighton ended up with him getting a goal and an assist, his first start of the campaign was less successful.

That came on May 4 when Slot’s men were defeated 3-1 by Chelsea.

The Englishman started in his preferred role of number 10 but was hooked in the 69th minute after struggling to make an impact.

Although all of Liverpool’s fanbase will have wanted nothing but success for Elliott this season, it just hasn’t worked out that way.

And, while his stock is still high, it feels like now is the right time for Liverpool to call it quits and perhaps put any money earned from his sale back into the team in other ways.

Otherwise, he may end up being a bench-warmer for the next couple of seasons, which, at the end of the day, is the last thing anybody wants.
