Dean Huijsen transfer race set to end as Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool wait on Bournemouth man’s decision

Liverpool can get a headstart on their Premier League rivals in the transfer market as they play out a meaningless end to the season.

While other clubs are embroiled in tough battles and big games, the Reds already have their feet up having confirmed themselves as champions in April.

With nothing left to play for on the pitch, Arne Slot and the recruitment team have a few weeks in which to focus more clearly on the transfer market.

As they try to put their plans in place, Liverpool are attempting to move quickly and tie up a deal for Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen.

Huijsen is available for £50m this summer and his good form for the Cherries has led to interest from plenty of other sides, too.

As he considers which option to take, journalist Fabrizio Romano says the 20-year-old is set to make a final decision on his future in the next few weeks.

Dean Huijsen saga nearing an end

Reports have suggested that Liverpool have already spoken to Huijsen’s agents in an attempt to convince him that Anfield is the best move for him this summer.

However, according to Romano, both Chelsea and Arsenal remain in the race for the Spaniard as well.

Speaking on his YouTube channel on Sunday evening, the transfer expert claimed that all will become clear for Huijsen before May is out.

“This month, May, will be really important for the future of Dean Huijsen,” says Romano. “Some sources are telling me there’s a strong possibility of Huijsen deciding his next club this month. So, not to be a saga for July, August, deadline day.”

“Three clubs remain in this race in a strong way. They are Chelsea, excellent relationship with the player’s side, Arsenal, considering Huijsen as a top, top defender, so also in contact with the player and then Liverpool.

“All these three clubs are absolutely in the race,” he adds. “That’s the situation, these three clubs are pushing. They’re going to present their projects to the player and then the player will decide.”

What about Real Madrid?

Early on in this transfer saga, there were suggestion that Huijsen is dreaming of a move to Real Madrid. It was claimed that if the Spanish giants come in for him, then it wouldn’t even be a question for the defender.

However, according to Romano, there is currently little chance of Madrid making a move for Huijsen. Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are – at the moment – the only three clubs in with a chance.

“There’s still no indication of Real Madrid’s intention to pay the release clause any time soon,” he says.

“My information is that Dean Huijsen would be really open and tempted by Real Madrid move. He’s Spanish, he can feel the magic of Real Madrid. But, at the moment, those close to Dean Huijsen have not received any message from Madrid on the intention of the club to pay the release clause and sign the player.”

In our opinion, faced with Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool, it should be a clear choice for Huijsen. But the Reds have been stung by Chelsea in particular in these kind of sagas before, so this could really go either way.
