Liverpool are Premier League champions with four games to spare after hammering Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Reds have been magnificent all season and finished the job at Anfield, sticking five past a sorry Spurs side to go 15 points clear.

Five goals on the day made it 80 in the Premier League for Liverpool this term, with no team able to even get close to their goal-scoring prowess.

Each goal was memorable in its own way, but with the title now wrapped up and secured, here, in reverse order, are the five strikes we think were the most important in helping Liverpool to their 20th English championship.

5. Diogo Jota vs Everton – 02/04/25

Liverpool headed into the second Merseyside Derby of the season in a good position in the Premier League, but in the middle of a wider mini-wobble.

Before the March international break the Reds had been dumped out of the Champions League by PSG and lost to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final within the space of five days.

Although they were nine points clear of Arsenal as they prepared to take on Everton at Anfield, there was a feeling that another dropping of points could open the door for the Gunners.

For a while it looked like that might happen. The Toffees had not lost for nine games under David Moyes and came to Anfield with a point to prove.

Thankfully, though, after much huffing and puffing, Diogo Jota finally broke through for Liverpool, slaloming past the Everton defence to smash past Jordan Pickford in the second-half.

With the lead at the top restored to 12 points, Liverpool never looked back. But what a difference a point instead of three could have made.

4. Dominik Szoboszlai vs Man City – 23/02/25

The weekend of the 22nd and 23 of February ultimately proved to be a huge one in the Premier League title race.

After Liverpool dropped points against Aston Villa in midweek, Arsenal had the chance to close the gap to five points with a home game vs West Ham.

Fortunately for Liverpool, Jarrod Bowen rode to the rescue, surprisingly handing Arsenal defeat and meaning the Reds could move 11 clear with a win over struggling City on the Sunday.

Liverpool accepted the invitation with glee, sweeping into an early lead through Mohamed Salah. With City pushing for an equaliser Dominik Szoboszlai killed the game off after 37 minutes with a smart, left-footed finish.

After losing in difficult fashion the day before, Szoboszlai’s goal felt like the one which really killed Arsenal’s hopes and showed how much business the Reds truly meant. Big moment.

3. Mohamed Salah vs Arsenal – 27/10/24

Liverpool got an early test of their title credentials at the end of October when they headed to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal.

The Gunners were not in the best shape having been dealing with some injury problems and began the game four points behind the eventual champions.

An early Bukayo Saka goal looked like it might change that, before Virgil van Dijk hit back with header. Mikel Merino nodded Arsenal back in front before half-time and that’s how the game stayed until the 81st minute.

With Liverpool not looking especially likely to score, up popped Salah to level the game and keep the Reds four points ahead of Arsenal – and one behind Man City.

It was a lovely goal, with Trent Alexander-Arnold playing a delightful ball into the channel for Darwin Nunez to chase. Nunez did well to latch on and square for Salah who finished clinically to give Liverpool a vitally important point.

2. Darwin Nunez vs Brentford – 18/01/25

Nunez has had a difficult season on the whole and his Liverpool career looks likely to end this summer.

However, if he does depart, then the Uruguayan will always have Brentford. His two goals in West London in mid-January will go down as being pivotal in Liverpool’s second Premier League title win.

The first was the more crucial. With the clock already showing beyond 90 minutes, Liverpool looked set to be heading towards a four-point lead at the top of the table with a game in hand.

As Arsenal played Aston Villa at the Emirates later that evening, it felt as though a big chance for the Gunners to narrow the gap was about to present itself.

But Nunez broke Arsenal hearts, slotting home a pass from Alexander-Arnold to send the travelling Liverpool fans into a frenzy. Van Dijk described Nunez’s goals as ‘massive‘ at the time and it has only felt bigger in the months since. A second was soon added but the damage was already done. Enormous.

1. Mohamed Salah vs Brighton 02/11/24

One week on from Salah’s heroics against Arsenal, the Egyptian provided what we believe to be Liverpool’s biggest goal of the 2024/25 season.

It came against Brighton at Anfield, on a day where the title pendulum swung in Liverpool’s favour. On this pivotal day, all three challengers – Liverpool, City and Arsenal – all kicked off at 3pm on Saturday.

With City losing 2-1 to Bournemouth to begin their alarming winter slump and Arsenal going down 1-0 against Newcastle, Liverpool coming from behind to beat Brighton was huge.

Cody Gakpo deserves big credit for grabbing the equaliser with just 20 minutes remaining, but it was Salah’s wonderful, curling strike which takes the cake in this one.

Collecting Curtis Jones’ pass, Salah whipped a beautiful finish into the top corner past Bart Verbruggen and turn this game on its head. As results went their way elsewhere, Liverpool moved two points clear of City at the top of the table. And that’s where they have remained ever since.
