Liverpool fans deliver clear verdict on Arne Slot selling Luis Diaz after win over West Ham

Liverpool look set for a summer of change as Arne Slot sinks his teeth into the project at Anfield.

The Reds moved a step closer to Premier League title glory on Sunday with a 2-1 win over West Ham.

But just as they have been for a little while now, Liverpool were unconvincing in victory against the Hammers.

Slot suggested change is to come after the game as he prepares to wield the axe on several members of the Liverpool squad.

One player who has been suggested as one of those under threat is Luis Diaz. Diaz has had a mixed campaign for the Reds but scored for the second game running against West Ham.

And after seeing the Colombian rack up his 11th Premier League goal of the season, Liverpool supporters have delivered their verdict on whether he should be sold this summer.

Liverpool fans want to keep Luis Diaz

Diaz has been linked with Saudi Arabia recently and with two years now left to run on his contract, it has the feeling of being a crunch summer for his Anfield career.

Prior to scoring against Fulham, the 28-year-old had been on a run of one goal in 19 appearances. He seemed to be whimpering towards the exit. But with two in two since, supporters on social media site X are keen to keep him at the club.

“Dummest idea ever to sell Luis Diaz,” says one fan. “He’s the only guy who can dribble at defenders. He’s also the cheapest of them all.”

Another simply wrote “Don’t sell Luis Diaz,” tagging in the official LFC account. “Mo salah and Luis Diaz have been sensational so far, definitely shouldn’t sell Diaz he has been brilliant,” someone else suggested.

“Liverpool fans wanting to get rid of Luis Diaz after having his best season for the club is the equivalent of Newcastle fans wanting to sell Isak, Forest fans to sell Wood, Wolves fans to sell Cunha, Bournemouth fans to sell Kluivert and Brentford fans to sell Wissa,” was the opinion of one fan.

“Luis Diaz is an elite LW, and should be down the list of forwards we look to sell in the summer,” added another. “He’s easily one of our most hardworking forwards too.”

“You know who I’m not slandering again and 100% retaining in my squad next season?” one fan posed. “Luis Diaz. Been our best player by far in these two stinking months. 11 non penalty league goals.”

“Never want to see Luis Diaz hate again, he literally covers every blade of grass. Unreal,” said another, with someone else even suggesting Diaz is the best winger in the world right now.

“Luis Diaz. I never want to sell this jugador. He’s miles better than any other winger in this world. Vinicius Jr in the mud,” they declared.

Will Liverpool sell Luis Diaz?

Despite fans’ assertions, it does feel as though there is a good chance Diaz will indeed be moved on this summer.

His output of 15 goals and five assists across all competitions should not be sniffed at, but with Saudi interest and a contract standoff, it feels the right time for Liverpool to cut him loose.

Having said that, fans are right to cast doubt on just how well Slot could replace him in the starting XI.

“There’s not 4 LWs better in the world than Luis Diaz and that’s being generous,” one supporter claimed after Sunday’s match.

“Luis Diaz – only 8 players have scored more non penalty premier league goals than him this season,” added another. “Yet the ‘lacks end product’ fiction persists. He’s an elite winger in terms of goals contributions in Europe’s top league.”

Diaz has certainly given Slot plenty to think about ahead of the summer, but we still feel it’ll be curtains for the Colombian.
