Liverpool supporters have been rejoicing this weekend after the future of Mohamed Salah was finally confirmed.
After almost a full season of worry that Salah was going to depart, the Egyptian signed a new, two-year contract on Friday.
But while Liverpool fans can look forward to two more years of Salah and – hopefully – Virgil van Dijk, Manchester City supporters were busy coming to terms with their own legend leaving this summer.
Kevin De Bruyne will leave City after 10 years of stellar service. It remains to be seen where De Bruyne will land, but while speaking to Viaplay after beating Crystal Palace on Saturday, the Belgian surprisingly suggested he may stay in England.
“I don’t know, honestly, I don’t know,” De Bruyne said when asked if his time in England was over. “Could be, could be not. It’s very hard because the decision of leaving has not been that long so nothing can be decided in a week. I need to speak to my family and see whatever team wants me. I’ve no idea, we’ll see.”
With De Bruyne famously a boyhood Liverpool supporter, fans have urged the Reds to pull off what would be a sensational transfer coup.

Liverpool fans want Kevin De Bruyne at Anfield
Given his allegiance to City, it had perhaps been expected that De Bruyne would leave the Premier League this summer. However, his latest comments clearly suggest that may not be the case.
And as Liverpool prepare to build on what looks like being a championship winning campaign, supporters on X think De Bruyne could now be the perfect addition for Arne Slot.
“I’d love him to sign for LFC still has a lot left to give,” says one fan, with another saying “I’d rip that 8 off Szoboszlai’s back for a year and I’ll not hear an argument otherwise.”
“I’d still take KDB on a one year deal,” agreed one more supporter. “Manage his minutes and he’s still absolutely magic. What a player.”

“Hear me out…. Reduced salary, doesn’t have to leave his home, reds fan, 15/20 games a year,” someone argued, while another added further justification to a hypothetical Liverpool approach.
“I am not absolutely joking when I say Liverpool should sign Kevin de Bruyne and play him as a deep lying playmaker if Trent Alexander Arnold leaves,” they say.
“Judging from how little Trent does in defence but very good going forward and in midfield creativity, I am signing KDB on a season’s rolling contract, to be our right back,” another argued.
“Salah deserves a KDB in his team. 2 year contract like Salah’s. Get it done,” was one fan’s verdict, with some also likening De Bruyne joining Liverpool to Luis Suarez’s successful move from Barcelona to Atletico Madrid in 2020.
Could De Bruyne really join Liverpool?
If De Bruyne is to join another Premier League team, then Liverpool would surely have to be the front-runners.
As fans have pointed out, the 33-year-old would not have to move his family, City are not technically a rival of Liverpool in the way Man United, for example, are and De Bruyne is even best friends with Van Dijk.
Perhaps most persuasively, though, is the fact the the midfield maestro is a self-confessed boyhood fan of the Reds.
“Make your dream come true Kevin,” wrote on fan on X, while another expertly outlined all the reasons a deal could happen. “De Bruyne is a Liverpool fan, lives in Cheshire and is best mates with Van Dijk,” they say. “And with what he’s saying I’d take him on a reasonable wage for a few years.”
Despite all of that, however, there are clear arguments against Liverpool signing De Bruyne. First off, he will turn 34 this summer and has had trouble with injuries over the past few years.
Furthermore, his wages at City likely to be on a par – or bigger – than what the likes of Van Dijk and Salah are earning. It would go against everything Liverpool stand for to hand another big contract out to an ageing player.
Then again, the Reds were seemingly ready to offer Alexander-Arnold big wages to stay, so the money is clearly there. It’ll be interesting to see where De Bruyne ends up, but we don’t think it will be Liverpool.
