Liverpool are in the market for a new striker, with Alexander Isak the leading candidate for the role.
The Newcastle United attacker has been the best centre-forward in the Premier League this season, with Isak’s form leading the Magpies to a Carabao Cup title against Liverpool with the Swedish international scoring in the final
With only Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah scoring more goals than the former Real Sociedad star in the English top-flight, there’s a good reason why Liverpool have identified Isak as their main target to lead the line next season.
Yet Newcastle’s demands for Isak could cause a big problem for Liverpool heading into the summer transfer window.

Alexander Isak could cost Liverpool as much as £150m
According to the Athletic, Isak could end up costing Liverpool as much as £150m if the Reds end up making a concrete effort to sign the Newcastle striker, with the Magpies in a strong position to retain the attacker.
Isak has three years remaining on his current contract with Newcastle with the Magpies viewing the 25-year-old attacker as not for sale this summer, with a UEFA Champions League finish only going to strengthen their position on the forward.
With Isak also now winning silverware with Newcastle, there is an even stronger incentive to remain at St. James’ Park for at least one more season, especially with the Saudi Arabia-backed project now looking set to go to the next level in the new campaign.
As a result, Liverpool could have to put up their hands and admit that they cannot beat Newcastle this summer in the war room for Isak, who this transfer window might be simply too much for the Reds.
Which strikers should Liverpool target instead this summer?
With Jamie Carragher saying Liveprool need six signings this summer, spending over £100m on one player seems out of the question for the Reds given how much work needs to be done to the squad.
Even with Isak as perfect as he, signing a world-class striker and not bringing in a defender or fullback could do more damage than good for Liverpool despite how exciting such a transfer would be for the Reds.
Thankfully, there are other options out there for the Anfield side, with Jonathan David wanted by Liverpool and set to become a free-agent this summer, with Hugo Ekitike also on the Merseyside giants’ radar.
