Chris Sutton predicts Liverpool vs Fulham and names Reds player who will ‘make the difference’

Liverpool have an almighty chance to put one hand firmly on the Premier League trophy as they travel to Fulham on Sunday.

The Reds were given a boost without even playing on Saturday, with Arsenal held to a draw by Merseyside rivals Everton.

Everton’s point means Liverpool sit 11 clear of Arsenal heading into Sunday’s fixture.

If they can build up a 14-point lead with just seven games left to play, the party can almost get started six weeks early.

There is work to do, though. Fulham picked up a battling 2-2 draw at Anfield earlier this season and have regularly been a difficult team for Liverpool to get the better of in the Premier League.

But Marco Silva’s side are not in brilliant form heading into the fixture having lost their last two. Bearing all of that in mind, pundit Chris Sutton has given his prediction for the day.

Liverpool backed to beat Fulham

Liverpool headed to Craven Cottage at a similar time of the campaign last year. It was a little later on, coming on April 21st, but the Reds were under some pressure going into that game.

In the end they came away with a battling 3-1 win, moving up to level on points with first-placed Arsenal in the Premier League table and one point ahead of Man City, who had a game in hand.

And writing his predictions for BBC Sport, Sutton has backed Liverpool to make it back-to-back wins on the Thames, predicting Mohamed Salah to ‘make the difference’ for Arne Slot.

“Fulham made things difficult for Arsenal on Tuesday and I am expecting them to do the same here because they are very capable on the counter-attack,” says the former striker.

“They might even give Liverpool another big scare here but, with what is at stake, I still think the leaders will be fully focused and get the job done again, like they did against Everton.

“Mohamed Salah against Fulham’s Antonee Robinson will be a key battle, and maybe Salah will make the difference in the end – he is certainly due a big performance.”

As Sutton alludes to, Salah is indeed due a turnaround in form. After such a sparkling season, the Egyptian has not scored from open play for Liverpool since February.

That has included blanks in two big games against PSG, the Carabao Cup final and the Merseyside Derby.

The pressure is off Liverpool a little bit going into Sunday’s game, but they will still need a bigger and better display from the likes of Salah.

There is a reason Robinson has been heavily linked with Liverpool. The left-back is a very good player. It will not be a cake-walk for Mo.

But with a Premier League title to win the hope will be that Salah is ready to kick on and end the season it style. It would be nice if he could start that sequence in west London on Sunday.
