Liverpool’s win over Everton on Wednesday put them one step closer to confirming the Premier League title.
The Reds are in an unbelievable position and sit 12 points clear with just eight games left to play.
It was not a vintage performance from Liverpool at Anfield, but they got the job done against a resolute Everton side.
Having been beaten in back-to-back games for the first time this season before the international break, it was a welcome return to winning ways for the Reds.
Despite the victory, though, Mohamed Salah was once again slightly anonymous as the Egyptian made it three games – three big games – without a goal or an assist.
Ahead of Wednesday’s Merseyside Derby, fresh rumours had emerged that Salah is on the verge of a contract extension with Liverpool. After an underwhelming display against Everton, journalist James Pearce has cleared up the chatter.

No news on Mohamed Salah extension
Although Salah has been off it a little recently, there’s no question that news of a contract extension would be greeted with delight by every Liverpool supporter.
On Wednesday, that had looked closer than ever, with pictures of a smiling Salah in full Liverpool training kit by the Royal Albert Dock doing the rounds on social media.
But writing for The Athletic on Thursday morning, Pearce set the record straight about the photos.
“The rumour mill went into overdrive on Wednesday after a photograph emerged on social media of Salah with a camera crew at the city’s Albert Dock,” said the journalist.
“However, it was completely unrelated to his contract situation. It was taken on Monday when Salah attended a player appearance for one of the club’s commercial partners.
“Discussions over an extension are ongoing with the hope that a suitable compromise can be reached.”
Salah off the boil against Everton
Having given everything all season long, Salah has needed help from his Liverpool teammates over recent matches.

The Egyptian’s season is already going to go down in the history books as one of the greatest ever seen in the Premier League and he is surely a shoo-in for the end of season awards.
However, it would be a shame if Salah’s Liverpool career limped over the line with a continuation of what he’s been turning in of late.
The ideal scenario is that Mo signs a new deal and gets to do it all over again next season, and hopefully beyond.
But if this is his last stand in red, then hopefully the 32-year-old can rise to the occasion during the final eight games.
