PSG player insists they are ‘going to win’ at Anfield after late Champions League loss against Liverpool

Liverpool recorded a memorable Champions League win on Wednesday night as Harvey Elliott delivered a sucker-punch against PSG.

The French champions had been in swashbuckling form heading into the game, having won each their last 10 matches.

And during a first-half in which Liverpool were comfortably second best, it looked likely that would stretch to an 11th at the Parc des Princes.

However, after a monster performance from Alisson Becker, there was a sting in the tail from Liverpool.

Up popped Elliott to deliver a big goal for the Reds in the dying embers of the game. Liverpool will now take a 1-0 lead back to Anfield next Tuesday.

The tie is far from over, though, and immediately after the game, PSG midfielder Vitinha stepped out with some fighting talk.

Vitinha insists PSG will win at Anfield

PSG would have been worthy winners of Wednesday’s game. Had it not been for Alisson, they could have taken a handsome lead to Merseyside next week.

But the Brazilian goalkeeper put in arguably his best ever performance for Liverpool to keep the Parisians at bay.

Alisson aside, Liverpool were not great, though. If they turn up with the same quality next week, there is every chance PSG can turn the tie around.

And according to Vitinha, Luis Enrique’s side will head to Anfield with full belief that they can do exactly that.

“It’s hard to play a match like that, against a team like that,” the Portuguese said via L’Equipe. “Only one goal opportunity, only one shot.”

“Now is the time to show what a team we are,” Vitinha continued. “We’re going to show what a team we are, we’re going to show our character. We’re going to win there. With the game we played, the victory was more than deserved. We had plenty of chances like at the start of the season but we didn’t manage to score.”

Liverpool will be better at Anfield

It’s easy to believe that PSG players would not be overawed by the Liverpool team they faced on Wednesday.

Although they were beaten by the Reds, they played them off the park for much of the game.

Nevertheless, if Vitinha and his teammates expect the same Liverpool to turn up on home soil next week, then they may be in for a surprise.

Liverpool are a different beast at Anfield and as the crowd smell a big opportunity in this year’s Champions League, they’ll be going all in to make it as uncomfortable as possible for Vitinha and co.
