Liverpool face PSG tomorrow in what could be Arne Slot’s biggest test yet as manager of the Reds since joining last summer.

The Anfield side finished the UEFA Champions League league format in first place with Liverpool heading into the knockout stage of the competition in high spirits, with the Merseyside giants since opening a 13-point lead in the Premier League.

With PSG winning their last ten games in all competitions, though, Liverpool know they face a huge test in the reigning Ligue 1 champions, even with Luis Enrique recently hailing the Reds as the best team in Europe.

And going into tomorrow’s game, Liverpool could now be without a third player through injury alongside Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez.

Cody Gakpo absent from Liverpool training ahead of PSG clash

In Liverpool’s open training session this afternoon, Cody Gakpo was absent from the senior squad with the Dutch international one of three first-team player who were not seen preparing for tomorrow’s tie against PSG.

The £44m-rated attacker came off from the substitute bench against Manchester City and Newcastle United in Liverpool’s last two Premier League games having missed the previous two due to a knock picked up against Everton.

With 16 goals and five assists in all competitions, Gakpo is well on course to enjoy his best season yet for Liverpool having regained his spark under Slot, who has made the forward a regular fixture out on the left after been used more centrally in the past by Jurgen Klopp.

However, with Gakpo missing from training today, there’s a real chance that the winger could now miss tomorrow’s huge Champions League game against PSG in France, a blow that could go a long way in Liverpool missing out on a crucial result at the Parc de Prances.

Who could replace Cody Gakpo in the attack for Liverpool?

Having not started the last two games for Liverpool, Gakpo’s potential absence for tomorrow might not be as bad as first feared, especially with Luis Diaz also in top form for the Reds this season under Slot.

With Danny Murphy also praising Diaz for his performance against Newcastle, the Colombian international is well-suited to replacing Gakpo for tomorrow’s game in the French capital, especially with the second-leg coming up so soon.

Indeed, Gakpo’s absence will be a blow for Liverpool, yet with Diaz fully fit and Slot’s side looking dangerous as they usually have done this season, the Reds are in a strong position to go all the way with PSG tomorrow night in what will be a thrilling contest.
