Mohamed Salah’s record against Man City as Liverpool superstar prepares for final meeting with Pep Guardiola

Liverpool travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday for another big game against Manchester City.

The Reds have regularly gone head-to-head with City to be crowned the best team in the country over the past decade.

While Pep Guardiola and his team have usually come out on top in the long run, individual matches between the two teams have often been tight affairs.

Jurgen Klopp had a terrific record against Guardiola during his time as Liverpool manager and Arne Slot kicked things off in the right way with a 2-0 win at Anfield in December.

Sunday’s game will be new territory for Liverpool, though, as they head to the Etihad as favourites to get the three points.

One reason the Reds are being tipped to win is the form of Mohamed Salah. And as he prepares to face City for what could well be the final time, Salah’s record against the Premier League champions deserves some attention.

Mohamed Salah’s record against Man City

City are at a low ebb heading into Sunday’s game having been beaten 3-1 and knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on Wednesday.

However, although Liverpool will begin the game as favourites, the Reds have not beaten City on their own turf in the Premier League since 2015.

That was before Salah’s time with Liverpool of course, meaning that the Egyptian has never won at the Etihad in a league match.

Nevertheless, Mo has still had a huge impact against City. After 21 matches played, Salah has won eight, drawn six and lost seven.

In terms of away from home, Salah has played nine games against Guardiola’s team, scoring four goals and registering two assists.

At Anfield, the 32-year-old’s record is understandably better. Also in nine meetings at Liverpool’s home, Salah has seven goals and four assists.

Is this Salah’s last dance against Guardiola?

In total, Sunday’s game will be the 22nd time Salah has faced Man City during his Liverpool career. If he does leave Anfield this summer, City will be the opponent he has played against the most.

With Liverpool out of the FA Cup and City out of the Champions League, there is no chance for the two clubs to come up against each other again during 2024/25.

As a result, if Salah does not sign his new contract and stay at Liverpool, this will indeed be his last dance with Guardiola.

Should an extension arrive, though, Guardiola’s recent new contract means this rivalry will be renewed into next season and beyond.

Salah has been a worthy adversary for the Man City machine over the years. If he can do it one more time on Sunday, it could play a key part in Liverpool lifting another overdue Premier League title.
