Liverpool head into another Premier League weekend hoping to maintain – or better – their lead at the top of the table.

The Reds pushed further ahead on Wednesday, moving eight clear of Arsenal after drawing against Aston Villa.

The Gunners will be looking to close the gap to five on Saturday, before Liverpool face Manchester City in a big game the following day.

While supporters may be getting nervous with 12 games left to play, though, they would do well to remember that they have one huge factor working in their favour: Mohamed Salah.

Salah is the Premier League’s top goal scorer and top assister, having hit a whopping 39 goal contributions so far this season.

And as the Egyptian continues what has been a remarkable campaign, he has earned some big praise from reported Liverpool target Bryan Mbeumo.

Bryan Mbeumo names Mohamed Salah as best in the world

Mbeumo has been having a superb season himself. The 25-year-old scored against Leicester City on Friday for his 15th league goal of the campaign.

This has led to claims that Liverpool are seriously considering signing Mbeumo from Brentford this summer.

As a result, fans will be interested to note that the Cameroon international picked Salah when asked to name the current best player in the world by Sky Sports on Friday.

Sitting alongside him, his strike partner, Yoanne Wissa, did the same. When asked to explain what makes Liverpool’s Egyptian King the best around, the pair did their best to explain.

“Everything, everything,” said Wissa, before Mbeumo expanded a little more.

“He’s just like, so composed in everything he does,” said the winger. “In front of the goal, even passing. It’s just crazy.”

Could Liverpool sign Bryan Mbeumo?

Mbeumo’s form has been exceptional right from the start of the season. With 12 games to go, there is a genuine possibility that he hits a 20-goal season for Brentford.

With one year left on his contract come the summer, there is clearly a real chance that he makes a step up.

From Liverpool’s point of view, you can understand their interest. As a left-footed forward, the former Troyes man could be an ideal replacement if Salah does leave.

He won’t come cheap, though. There have been reports that Brentford would be looking for around £60m to sell Mbeumo. That could put Liverpool off.

Nevertheless, Mbeumo is experienced in the Premier League, at a good age, scarcely injured and continues to get better and better. You’d struggle to find all of that for a better price. We’d say this is one to keep an eye on.
