Verdict given on Alisson Becker injury after Liverpool goalkeeper picks up ‘knock’ against Wolves

Liverpool rode their luck against Wolves on Sunday in what should have been a much better performance.

The Reds never quite looked at their best at Anfield, struggling to cope with Vitor Pereira’s relegation-threatened team.

They did get themselves into a 2-0 lead in the first-half, but Liverpool never fully looked good value for it.

Wolves capitalised on that in the second-half, pulling a well deserved goal back through Matheus Cunha.

In truth, the Premier League relegation battlers could easily have scored before they did. Had it not been for a brilliant one-on-one save from Alisson Becker, they would have.

But shortly after making the save, there was worry at Anfield for Alisson, who went down needing treatment.

‘Nothing major’ for Alisson

The sight of Alisson sitting on the floor and motioning for treatment was an instant worry for every single Liverpool fan on Sunday.

The 32-year-old has had so many fitness problems down the years including a debilitating one which saw him miss more than two months of this season.

After making such a good save and showcasing his quality, the dark side of Alisson reared its head almost instantly.

However, the Brazilian was fine to continue, and speaking on BBC Sport, former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock said there was certainly ‘nothing major’ for Alisson.

“I think it is a knock to the shin for Alisson. It’s nothing major,” said Warnock.

With no substitution needed, the goalkeeper was patched up and continued on for the full 90 minutes.

Jamie Carragher hails Alisson save

Liverpool fans know that even if Alisson does get injured, Caoimhin Kelleher can ably step in to replace him.

However, with such a big run of fixtures coming up in the next two weeks, they’ll want their number one as available as possible.

The save just moments before he got his knock highlighted Alisson’s quality and commentating for Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher raved about the stop.

“That’s why Alisson is the best in the world in one-on-one situations,” said Carragher. “As he goes through you don’t fancy him to score because of the goalkeeper, he’s just brilliant at those situations.

“Nobody’s better in these situations, only maybe Peter Schmeichel going back 20, 30 years. He makes himself big, maybe there’s a coming together, I didn’t quite see.”
