Harvey Elliott makes jibe at Everton fans after final Goodison Park clash with Liverpool

Liverpool had to settle for a point in the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park after a late James Tarkowski stunner.

The Reds were on the verge of what would have been an enormous win at the home of their neighbours, before Tarkowski popped up in the eighth minute of injury time.

It was a big blow for Liverpool, but in reality the Reds did not do quite enough to win the game.

For the Everton supporters present at Goodison Park, it clearly meant a great deal. A point does not do them much in their battle against the Premier League drop, but it was still a cathartic moment in a fixture which has not often gone their way.

In order to level the playing field against a far superior Liverpool side, the Blues fans had been expected to make it a bear pit inside Goodison for one last time.

However, when asked about the atmosphere created from the stands, unused Liverpool substitute Harvey Elliott said there was only one set of supporters he could hear all night.

Harvey Elliott makes jibe at Everton fans

After what was a really poor performance against Plymouth Argyle on Sunday, it was unsurprising to see Elliott left on the bench against Everton.

The 21-year-old has struggled for game time under Arne Slot and was not trusted for a cameo in such a tight encounter.

Nevertheless, it will still have meant a lot for Elliott to be involved in any capacity. The youngster is a massive Liverpool supporter and is one of those who appreciates what this fixture means to the fanbase.

And when asked about the outcome in a post-game interview with TNT Sports, Elliott was clearly gutted about the result, but still had time to get a jibe in towards Everton fans.

“This game feels like a loss because of everything that happened,” he said. “But I feel like we need to look at the bigger picture. It’s a point on the board at a tough ground, the circumstances as well with it being the last Merseyside Derby here.”

Asked whether he could ‘feel the crowd’ Elliott dismissed any impact from the home support.

“Not really, no,” replied the Reds midfielder. Pressed on whether he didn’t feel a ‘roar’ around the ground, Elliott made a further dig.

“Yeah, the Liverpool fans,” he said, straight-faced, before breaking into a smile.

Elliott sends reminder of allegiances

In many ways it has been a shame the way this season has played out for Elliott. Sunday’s poor display at Plymouth means it is unlikely to get better for him any time soon.

Nevertheless, it becomes clear every so often just how big a deal it is for Harvey to be playing for his boyhood club.

Had he been on the pitch at the time, there’s little question Elliott would have joined Curtis Jones in defending the Liverpool fans from Abdoulaye Doucoure’s taunts.

His chance may yet come in an unexpected way under Slot, but until it does, it’ll no doubt be hurting the No.19 that he isn’t playing more of a part.

Still, Harvey is clearly all in on the Liverpool cause. He proves it time and again.
