Liverpool have had an incredibly quiet January as the window enters its final week.

Should they wish to belatedly add to their squad, the Reds have until 11pm on Monday 3rd February to do it.

With Liverpool sitting top of the Premier League table and also flying high in the Champions League, some will agree that Arne Slot does not need any extra help.

But having seen the Reds go off the boil from being in strong positions before, others will be anxious about seeing the Liverpool squad remain unchanged.

As ever, there have been plenty of rumours flying about. Excitement grew over the weekend after suggestions that Liverpool could swoop late to sign Jorrel Hato from Ajax.

And with the days quickly starting to tick past, transfer guru David Ornstein has provided a timely update on any potential business at Anfield.

No transfer movement expected at Liverpool

Ornstein has come to be the man many fans rely on for accurate transfer news during the summer and winter windows.

The journalist is very visible in the media and on Tuesday appeared on The Overlap alongside Jamie Carragher and Paul Scholes.

Speaking on transfers, Carragher suggested that at Liverpool, improvements in the squad have come through Slot’s coaching rather than outward additions.

“Listen, we all get excited by transfers and we all want to see our team improve,” said the Liverpool legend.

“But if you talk about a coach, sometimes a coach is not just buying players, it’s actually improving the players he inherited. If you look at Arne Slot, Gravenberch looks a different player, Luis Diaz looks a different player, Gakpo looks a different player. So, he’s had an influence there.

“These are players that were some of them bought 18 months ago. But there’s no doubt in the fact that Liverpool haven’t bought anyone this window, didn’t really buy anyone in the summer, there must be a big pot of money there to buy whoever they want next summer.”

Turning to Ornstein, Carragher asked the question all Liverpool fans wanted to hear the answer to. “You know better than us, what areas are Liverpool are looking at, are they looking at this January window or more in the summer?”

“I’m not aware of Liverpool making moves in this market,” answered the journalist. “It’s really refreshing to hear somebody speak like that on transfers as a whole.”

Who could Liverpool sign in the summer?

It had always felt more than likely that Liverpool would keep their powder dry during the January window.

The Reds have made use of the winter market to good effect in the past, but nothing has ever felt close to happening in 2025.

Nevertheless, as Carragher alludes to, expectation is there that Liverpool are set for a big summer.

There could yet be a lot of turnover in the Liverpool squad, with danger that at least three star players could leave the club.

As well as potentially having to find top-level replacements at centre-back, right-back and right wing, the Reds should also be targeting a new left-back, another midfielder and even a centre-forward. The next window could certainly be busy, but this one definitely won’t be.
