Liverpool player ratings vs Ipswich as ‘amazing’ player stands out and Andy Robertson verdict is given

Liverpool enjoyed themselves at Anfield on Saturday as they delivered a comfortable 4-1 win against Ipswich.

The Reds knew they had a big opportunity to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table as the relegation threatened Tractor Boys came to town.

Games like these have been troublesome for Liverpool in the past, as they attempt to break down a side more than happy to sit in and scrap a point.

But after Dominik Szoboszlai’s brilliant goal gave the Reds an early lead, they never looked in danger of dropping any points at all. Here’s how we rated the players on another good day in the Premier League for Liverpool.

Defence

Alisson Becker: 7Alisson has been disappointing recently but was barely troubled on Saturday. Made a smart save from Omari Hutchison and an excellent stop from a close range header late on, but couldn’t keep the clean sheet as Jacob Greaves buried a close range header.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: 8 – Rarely in danger defensively, Alexander-Arnold showed off his brilliance going the other way with some wonderful link-up play. A performance full of swagger topped off with a perfect cross to set up Cody Gakpo for the fourth.

Ibrahima Konate: 8 Konate played his part in Szoboszlai’s goal in the first-half and was terrific with the ball in general all day. A Rolls-Royce of a performance from the Frenchman.

Virgil van Dijk: 7 – Went down after a clash of heads in the first-half leading to a sharp intake of breath around Anfield. Was fine to carry on and strolled through the rest of the match.

Andy Robertson: 7Robertson has been struggling of late, but this was a much improved performance from the £10m man. Dangerous in attack and solid in defence. Just like the old days.

Midfield

Dominik Szoboszlai: 9 – Another delightful midfield display from Szoboszlai. The 23-year-old hit the opener to get Liverpool on their way and another lovely touch and volleyed pass through to Luis Diaz was a particular highlight. In top form.

Alexis Mac Allister: 9 – Man of the Match – Szoboszlai may have caught the eye more, but Mac Allister was absolutely purring against Ipswich. Wataru Endo hailed Mac Allister as ‘amazing‘ in the week and this was just the consummate midfield performance. Perfect in everything he did and so important to Liverpool.

Ryan Gravenberch: 8 – Not quite as good as his midfield teammates, but Gravenberch was still everywhere for Liverpool. A delightful slided ball through to Szoboszlai in the build up to Gakpo’s first goal was his best moment.

Attack

Mohamed Salah: 7 – Salah took his goal brilliantly but was not always on top of his game against Ipswich. Still got on the scoresheet but was a touch outshone by his teammates for a change.

Luis Diaz: 6 – Another slightly underwhelming display from Diaz, who doesn’t look quite comfortable through the middle.

Cody Gakpo: 8 – Two more goals at Anfield for Gakpo who got a double without being amazing in his all-round play. Still, in the right place at the right time first of all and then kept himself onside and directed his header well for the second.

Substitutes

Harvey Elliott: 5 – Buzzed about and tried to create something but beaten far too easily by Greaves for the Ipswich goal.

Darwin Nunez: 6 – Couldn’t really get into it as Liverpool took their foot off the pedal.

Wataru Endo: 7 – Scrappy as always and took a knee in the face from Julio Enciso who somehow escaped with just a booking.

Jayden Danns: 6 – Came on to play just off Nunez and was a handful as always. Good to see the 19-year-old get a run out.

Federico Chiesa: N/A – Could’ve probably done with a longer run out than five minute, with Liverpool just playing for the final whistle by the time Chiesa came on.
