Liverpool recorded a comfortable 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday to maintain their six point lead at the top of the Premier League.

The Reds were always huge favourites to beat the Tractor Boys, who were coming off the back of being hammered 6-0 by Man City last week.

Things were a little better for Kieran McKenna’s side at Anfield, but not by much.

Liverpool did the damage in the first-half, with goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo putting them 3-0 up at the break.

Gakpo then got another to kill the game dead in the second-half, before Jacob Greaves grabbed a consolation for the visitors.

There were a number of top performers for Liverpool, with Alexis Mac Allister one of those to stand out against Ipswich. But after getting his two goals, it was Gakpo who earned post-match praise from France legend Claude Makelele.

Cody Gakpo praised for ‘unbelievable’ performance

Gakpo has been in superb form for Liverpool of late. His tap-in during the first-half meant the Dutchman has now found the net in six successive games at Anfield.

More often than not recently, when Arne Slot’s team have needed a goal, they’ve turned to Cody for inspiration.

Other may have been more eye-catching in a more general sense on Saturday, but it was still Liverpool’s No.18 who made the biggest mark on the scoresheet.

Makelele was one of those to recognise this, praising Gakpo via premierleague.com.

“[Gakpo’s] unbelievable,” said the former Real Madrid man before hailing Liverpool’s all-round performance.

“Liverpool play with an ease, they are strong. They play together, pressing, the team matters.”

Gakpo enjoys latest Anfield goal

Gakpo seemingly loves getting himself on the scoresheet at Anfield. This was something the Dutchman recognised when asked after the game.

“I really do love scoring here but the most important thing was the win today,” Gakpo said via BBC Sport.

“Everyone knows his quality [Trent Alexander-Arnold]. I was eager to be on time in the box [to meet his cross]

“Everyone is in good form but we have to keep going.”

Gakpo certainly is in a good moment himself. Another top performance in a season which has been littered with them.
