Liverpool are running out of time to make an impact during the January transfer window.
The Reds have barely made any signings at all over the past 12 months and look set to wait until the summer before bolstering their squad again.
When they finally do decide to open the chequebook, it looks possible that the Liverpool owners are going to have to go big.
Arne Slot is surely going to want to stamp his mark on the Liverpool squad and there are several key position which could do with strengthening regardless.
If Liverpool lose Mohamed Salah, for example, then they are going to have to make an effort to add to their forward line.
And as they continue to assess their option, the Reds may have now been given a boost in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.

Borussia Dortmund want to sell Jamie Gittens abroad
Gittens has been linked with Liverpool on the back of a what has been a real breakout campaign.
Dortmund sacked former Liverpool midfielder Nuri Sahin on Thursday following a disappointing season on the whole for the Black and Yellows. However, if there was one player doing his best to keep Sahin in a job, then it was Gittens.
The 20-year-old has 11 goals and three assists in 2024/24, leading to suggestions that he’s set for a big move at the end of the campaign.
And according to journalist Christian Falk, Liverpool are very much in the race to sign Gittens. With Dortmund keen to keep the Englishman out of Bayern Munich’s hands, the Reds could get ahead in the queue.
“Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are also in the transfer race with Bayern for Jamie Gittens,” Falk says in his Fact Files column. “Dortmund’s management is understood to prefer to sell the player to an overseas club in order to avoid strengthening rivals Bayern Munich.”

“FC Bayern are still taking the competition with English clubs very seriously and hope that BVB will be forced into selling Gittens should they fail to qualify for Champions League football in 2025/26.
“Dortmund are currently looking for a transfer fee of €100m [£84m],” Falk adds. “Should Premier League clubs bid for the Englishman, Bayern are aware that completing a transfer on their end will be difficult.”
Gittens one to watch for Liverpool
While it seems unlikely that Liverpool would shell out Dortmund’s full asking price for Gittens, he is still one to watch at Anfield.
Given their current 10th placed position in the Bundesliga, it seems probable that Dortmund will have to sell the youngster this summer.
| Season | Apperances | Goals | Assists |
| 2021/22 | 4 | 0 | 0 |
| 2022/23 | 20 | 3 | 1 |
| 2023/24 | 34 | 2 | 5 |
| 2024/25 | 27 | 11 | 3 |
However, while they usually approach the market in a position of strength, we’re struggling to see how Gittens will be worth the price they want for him. Former Brighton man Pacal Gross has hailed Gittens as ‘unbelievably strong‘ but he still has a lot to prove.
Nevertheless, with competition for him in the Premier League, he isn’t going to be cheap.
Young, English and relatively versatile, we’d suggest that if Liverpool need to go big on the forward line this summer, then Gittens is someone worth monitoring.
